Aleks3591: The 1.d4 Loyalist Who Defends the French Defense
Every online chess scene has its classicists, and Aleks3591 is the rare kind who picked a first move years ago, nodded once, and never looked back. The recorded log shows 1,521 games with a known first move. 1,520 of them are 1.d4. The other one is a lone 1.e4 from 2021, reason unknown, regret presumed. That is 99.9% loyalty to the Queen's Gambit family, and the returns have been steady.
- Home turf: Rapid (preferred), with 3,003 blitz games as cross-training
- Black repertoire: the French Defense, wall to wall
- Longest streaks: 9 wins, 8 losses, streaky by exactly one game
- Trademark: resigning lost positions early and politely, 95% of the time
- Style note: first capture usually arrives around move 7, structure before violence
White: Queen's Pawn Classicism With One Gambling Problem
With White, the plan is respectable: 233 blitz games in Slav Defense structures at a 53.65% win rate, quiet 3.e3 lines against the Queen's Gambit Accepted, and Chigorin battles in the Queen's Gambit Declined after 3.cxd5. Then the Diemer-Duhm Gambit appears 100 times: 1.d4, 2.e4, a pawn offered with the confidence of someone who has read the fine print.
The Australian Defense has wandered through 209 blitz games, the Poisoned Pawn against the London converts at 55.74%, and the gambit itself sits just under 45%, which is what happens when you pay a pawn for entertainment and the entertainment occasionally pays you back.
Black: The French Fortress
As Black there is no deliberation, only the French Defense: Exchange Variation, reached 317 times in blitz with a 52.68% score, a number that would startle anyone who was told the line is drawish. In rapid it turns sinister: six games, five wins, one draw.
Elsewhere in the French: 192 blitz games in the Advance Variation, a sore spot in the Burn Variation at 33.33%, and a flawless 2-0 in the Tarrasch, Botvinnik line on a sample size too small to mention, so it will not be mentioned. The Nimzo-Indian Three Knights quietly scores 55.56%, the best-kept secret in the repertoire.
The 2026 Rapid Revival
The rapid ledger is a heist film. April 2022: two games, two wins, exit stage left for four and a half years. September 2026: sudden reappearance, 28 games, 18 wins. By early October the rapid peak of 2008 (2026-10-05) was banked and the 2000 barrier had been crossed, part of an overall rapid record of 25 wins, 10 losses, and 3 draws with a strength-adjusted win rate above 66%. Whatever the blitz years were for, they were rehearsal.
Blitz Chess: 3,003 Games of Honest Work
The blitz resume is not a hobby, it is a career: 1,444 wins, 1,353 losses, 206 draws, and a 51.6% win rate held in place for years, with a high-water blitz mark of 1954 (2025-08-05) set in August 2025. Games run long for the format, losses often arrive by flag rather than checkmate, and the average win stretches past 75 moves. Blitz chess is supposed to be fast food. Aleks orders the tasting menu.
Playing Style: Endgame Native, Graceful Quitter
- Early and polite: 95% of lost positions end in prompt resignation, and checkmates received across the entire record number just 53. Opponents get the point, not the gallery opening.
- Blowout proof: only 2.05% of losses are one-sided, and after dropping a piece Aleks still scores nearly half the time.
- Endgame native: over 76% of games reach an endgame, and wins average 75 moves, six longer than the typical loss. Sieges, not skirmishes.
- Calm under pressure: tilt factor of 8 out of 100, roughly the emotional profile of a very still lake.
- The queen does the talking: 2,339 checks delivered by the queen, and games where Aleks checks first convert at 56.52%.
- The data says 3 AM is prime time and the 11 PM slot is winless. The samples are small, the confidence is total.
- Monday is the best day of the week at 50.45%. Tuesday exists to be rescheduled.
- Against lower-rated opposition the score is 64.42%, against higher-rated it is 28.56%. The universe remains in balance.
Rivals, Dance Partners, and the Unsolved Riddle
The most frequent partner is jcabellacruz, seven meetings split 3-3-1, a rivalry so even it should come with its own trophy. valhuber is nearly as sticky at 2-1-2, AS1973 has been managed 3-1, and contemarche and mecaajfon share a friendly combined 4-0-2. Then there is arban-2: three meetings, zero wins. Every player has a boss. Aleks's boss shows up, wins, and does not even stay for the analysis.
The Blueprint
The formula is public and unfalsifiable: open with 1.d4, trade happily into the French exchange, outlast the field into the 70s on the move counter, check early and check with the queen, resign only when the position is legally dead, and never start a rated game at 11 PM. Challengers who wish to stress-test the method know where the board is.
