AlexLion23: Chess Biography of a Late-Night Bullet Predator

Who Is AlexLion23?

AlexLion23 is an online chess player who treats the board like a savanna: aggressively, hungrily, and preferably after 10 p.m. With nearly 12,000 games across Bullet, Blitz, rapid, and daily chess, the Lion has built a reputation for offbeat openings, clock-shattering finishes, and one of the most dramatic rating climbs in recent online chess memory.

The preferred hunting ground is bullet chess, where AlexLion23 has logged almost 8,700 games. The best hour to catch the Lion in action is 23:00, where the win rate peaks above 51 percent. By midnight that collapses to 30 percent, which suggests that even apex predators need their beauty sleep.

Bullet Chess: Fast Claws, Faster Flags

Bullet is where AlexLion23 lives. Of the Lion's victories, more come from opponents running out of time (2,241 timeout wins) than from actual checkmate (1,160). Some call that dirty pool. AlexLion23 calls it the food chain.

Here lies the great paradox of this career: the bullet peak sits at just 1900 (2025-02-11), modest next to the blitz greatness. At full sprint, even a lion occasionally trips over its own tail.

The Great Blitz Climb

At the start of July 2025, AlexLion23 was scraping along near 1700. Within weeks the Lion was at 2370, then 2512, then 2687, riding a 21-game winning streak and devouring the rating ladder. By June 2026 the peak had hit 2852 (2026-06-14). Analysts are still checking the oxygen tanks on that ascent.

The formula is simple: beat whoever is rated below (68.9 percent win rate), and accept that the 30.6 percent wins against stronger players are just enough snacks to keep climbing.

An Opening Repertoire of Pure Chaos

AlexLion23's signature White weapon is the Barnes Opening, the infamous 1.f3, statistically one of the worst first moves in chess, played here in the Walkerling line. In blitz it scores 57.8 percent over 161 games, the best result of any serious opening in the repertoire. Theory says 1.f3 is terrible. The Lion says theory has never been bitten.

With Black, the Australian Defense does the most work (143 blitz games), while the Sicilian Defense, Najdorf Variation, keeps losing at a 41.8 percent clip yet remains in the lineup out of pure stubbornness.

In bullet, the Blackburne Shilling Gambit has been sprung more than 200 times:

Then there is the on-again relationship with Poisoned Pawn lines against the London System, played at roughly a 38 percent win rate with no apparent intention of stopping. At this point the poison is basically a smoothie.

For the record: 2023 began as a d4 era (222 first moves that year), then the Lion switched to 1.e4 and never looked back, sprinkling in 1.f3 purely for chaos.

Slow Down the Clock and the Lion Becomes Terrifying

Give AlexLion23 time to think and everything changes. In rapid chess the record reads 25 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, including a flawless 19-0 October 2025 campaign and a 2130 peak. Bullet opponents should be grateful the Lion insists on speed.

Pride Wars: Rivalries Worth Watching

Every lion has a thorn in its paw, and for AlexLion23 that thorn is Francis Francis, who leads their head-to-head 14 wins to 4 across 18 bruising encounters. Meanwhile, pfeil1972 serves as the favorite sparring partner (20 games, 12-8 to the Lion), and cem_fantasy is the rare opponent who gets genuinely owned at 7-5.

Style Notes: Endgames, Dignity, and 64 King Checks

  • Endgame frequency of 77.4 percent: AlexLion23's games are marathons, averaging about 74 moves, and the endgame is where the kill actually happens.
  • An early resignation rate of 58 percent: no squirming in lost positions, just a dignified exit.
  • A comeback rate of 84 percent and a one-sided loss rate of just 1.15 percent: when the Lion loses, it loses bleeding and biting, never rolled over.
  • A tilt factor of 12, which is impressively chill for someone with 8,700 bullet games.
  • 35,144 checks delivered, mostly with the queen. Notably, 64 were delivered by the king itself, which is either bravery or a complete disregard for personal safety.
  • 95 stalemate draws: sometimes even the Lion cannot finish the meal.
  • Daily chess sampled exactly twice, both in the delightfully named Colle System: Rhamphorhynchus Variation, split 1-1. Yes, that is named after a pterodactyl. No, it is not clear who asked.

The Legend of AlexLion23 Continues

Whether flagging opponents at 11 p.m., winning with 1.f3, or ignoring every opening book ever printed, AlexLion23 remains proof that in online chess, confidence, claws, and a good sleeping schedule beat theory every time. Approach after midnight at your own risk, and bring a spare clock.
