Some players pick an opening and never let go. Amogh Laroia, known on the board as Amogh_150, picked the Scandinavian Defense and has played it well over a thousand times, which is either admirable loyalty or the definition of stubbornness. Either way, it has worked out rather nicely.

Starting out in August 2024 with a modest rating in the low 1100s, Amogh embarked on one of the steepest climbs this side of a mountain goat. Within two years the blitz rating had surged past the 2400 mark, with a peak of 2477 achieved in September 2026. That is not improvement. That is a rocket launch with a chessboard strapped to it.
