Arpitthegrandmaster: A Chess Biography Written in Optimism

The Username Is a Promise

Some online chess usernames are modest. This one is not. Arpitthegrandmaster is less a name and more a five-year plan, and the beautiful part is that the gap between the title and the reality keeps shrinking. When Arpit first appeared in February 2025, the blitz rating hovered near 235. By October 2026 it had climbed to a peak of 1227 (2026-10-04). The grandmaster part is not false advertising, it is a scheduled announcement.

Underneath the branding sits a genuinely compelling story: a blitz chess grinder with one beloved opening, one favorite first move, and a near-total refusal to resign.

The Great Climb

The 2025 campaign was a patient grind through the 300s, 400s and 500s, heavy on lessons and light on laurels. Then came June 2026: 61 blitz games, 45 wins, and a rating that rocketed from the 600s past the 1000 mark. The ascent continued all summer until it crested at 1227. Then October 2026 arrived and offered eight consecutive losses, because the rating ladder giveth and, occasionally, it giveth in the other direction.

Not every clock suite cooperates. Bullet has been a long-running feud (217 wins, 336 losses), rapid is nearly a coin flip (231-220-30), and daily chess, where thinking time is measured in calendar days, peaked at 1175. In short: give Arpit a clock and it is a fight; give Arpit a deadline next Tuesday and it becomes the opponent's problem.

Opening Report: The Scandinavian Empire

Arpit plays the Scandinavian Defense the way some people wear a favorite jacket: constantly, and in all weather. More than 400 games of it across every time control. The recipe starts the same way almost every time: 1.e4, played in 585 of 591 tracked first moves in 2025. The five e3s and the lone g4 remain under investigation.

As White, the weapon of choice is the Barnes Opening: Walkerling, an opening so obscure that opponents sometimes spend their clock time wondering what it is rather than meeting it. Nearly 240 games of it and counting. There is also the Blackburne Shilling Gambit, holding a healthy 51.7% score in blitz, plus a stunning 84.6% win rate whenever an opponent dares to try the Barnes Defense.

The scouting report contains warnings too. The Caro-Kann Defense has been brutal (23.8% in blitz), and the Australian Defense went 0 for 6 before being quietly retired. And then there is the queen: 1,856 checks delivered, making Her Majesty the most active checking piece on the account by a country mile.

The Nemesis Ledger

Every improving player needs a villain, and arnav8763 has volunteered extensively: 75 head-to-head games, with Arpit trailing 27 wins to 42 losses plus 6 draws. That is not a rivalry, that is a subscription. gm_ruthvik and ashi2sh also own winning records, combining for a lopsided 2-14 in 16 games.

Happier reading sits on the other page of the ledger. ritikkafle is 0 for 13 against Arpit, anshop2014 is 0 for 10, and krishnapro6 managed exactly one win in 13 meetings. Every healthy ecosystem needs both predators and prey.

Heart of a Fighter

The statistics that best describe this account appear on no leaderboard. Early resignations happen in only about 7% of games. The comeback rate sits at 67.9%, and Arpit still wins 38% of games after dropping a piece, which suggests the material is negotiable but the result is not. Streaks arrive in extremes: a 22-game winning avalanche on one end, an 18-game losing slide on the other, and the current eight-loss wobble is, by these standards, basically a spa day.

Circadian science matters as well. Results peak around the 18:00 hour, Saturdays are friendly (49.3%), and Wednesdays are cursed (38.1%). Schedule accordingly.

Quick Facts

  • Signature opening: the Scandinavian Defense, over 400 games and counting.
  • Signature first move: e4, at a 99% adoption rate.
  • Blitz record: 259 wins, 282 losses, and only 31 draws, because draws are for people with spare time.
  • Checkmate deliveries: 282 and climbing, against 484 received. Every blade cuts both ways.
  • Favorite checking piece: the queen, obviously.
  • Favorite hour to play: 18:00, when the win rate turns heroic.

Final verdict: the username is a forecast, not yet a fact, but the trend line points the right way. The ladder has been warned.
