Feedback for Andre “azn2002” Nielsen

What you’re doing well

  • Tactical vision. Your recent win against vinjarhammari showed excellent calculation with the Rxe6 – Nxe6 exchange-sacrifice sequence, netting material and the initiative.
  • Active openings. You employ sharp systems (Sicilian, Dutch, Winawer) that create imbalanced positions where your tactical skills shine.
  • Pressure chess when ahead on the board. In several daily games you maintained the initiative and converted without giving the opponent counter-chances.

Primary improvement areas

  1. Time management.
Five of the seven losses in the sample occurred on time. Improving here will raise your results immediately.
    Suggestions:
    • Adopt a simple “30-second discipline”: make a move, add 30 s of analysis to the clock, then commit. You will seldom drop below 30 s in blitz.
    • Use the opening phase to bank time—play familiar lines rather than searching for novelty at the board.
    • Practise 1 | 0 “bullet for feel” sessions once a week to train faster move selection; review them quickly, then delete so they don’t pollute your game archive.
  2. End-game conversion.
In several daily wins you were clearly winning long before the resignation. Try to finish the game sooner by:
    • Centralising the king once queens are off.
    • Trading into simple winning end-games instead of pressing for mate.
    A focused end-game drill (e.g. 10 pawn-end games + 10 rook-end games per week) will pay off quickly.
  3. Risk assessment of early pawn thrusts.
Moves like …g5 in the English and premature …b5 in Catalan structures gave your opponents clear targets. Before pushing a wing pawn, ask:
    • “Can the pawn be safely supported on the next move?”
    • “Does it open lines toward my own king?”
If either answer is uncertain, seek an alternative plan.

Action plan (next 4 weeks)

  1. Every second day solve 15 tactics at your performance rating +200; annotate why wrong answers failed.
  2. Replay one master game in each of your main openings, focusing on plans, not moves.
  3. Play two 15 | 10 rapid games per week and annotate them immediately; focus on time usage and decision checkpoints.
  4. Finish Silman’s “Endgame Course” chapter on rook endings, then test yourself with five practical positions.
