CemOnem: The Rapid Specialist Who Never Met a Gambit He Did Not Like

CemOnem is a rapid chess player with a taste for the strange, the sharp and the slightly unhinged. Where most players spend their formative years learning safe development, CemOnem spent them asking a different question: what if the pawn was already gone and the fun had already started? Thousands of games later, that question still gets answered the same way, usually with a check, often with a rook, and occasionally with a shrug and a new game.

He plays under the same name on the board and on the clock, which is a small mercy for anyone trying to prepare against him. There is no secret second account to worry about. There is only CemOnem, arriving at the board with a plan that is somewhere between brilliant and reckless and refusing to tell you which.

From 596 to the 2200s: The Long Climb of CemOnem

The story starts quietly in March 2021 with a single win and a rating of 596. That first game went to a Queen's pawn opening and lasted 77 moves, which tells you something about the young CemOnem: even back then he was not in a hurry. Then came silence. A whole year of it, broken only in late 2022 by nine games, all of them victories, which is a perfectly reasonable way to reintroduce yourself to a website.

The real explosion came in 2023. In June of that year alone CemOnem played 289 rapid games, which is not a hobby, it is a lifestyle choice. The rating did not just move, it launched, crossing 2000 in a matter of weeks and settling into the 2050 to 2100 range for the rest of the year. By the time 2024 and 2025 rolled around he was a fixture of the 2100 to 2200 bracket, a permanent resident with no plans to move.

His best form produced a peak of 2271 (2026-02-16) in February 2026, in the middle of a month where he scored 86 wins from 147 games while apparently doing very little else. Anyone who has ever tried to gain rating points on a Tuesday evening will appreciate how much work that represents.

The Diemer-Duhm Devotion

Every player has a signature, and CemOnem's is written in a language that most of the chess world does not speak. His most played line by an enormous margin is the Diemer-Duhm Gambit, appearing in over a thousand rapid games with a win rate above 61 percent. For the uninitiated, this is a gambit in the Queen's pawn family where White offers a pawn early and asks Black to please, be reasonable, and hand over the centre. Black rarely is reasonable, which is exactly why it works.

The supporting cast is no less eccentric. The Blackburne Shilling Gambit shows up hundreds of times, a trap so old it should come with a museum plaque, and CemOnem still converts it at better than 56 percent. Add the Slav Defense Bonet Gambit, the Grünfeld Counterthrust, the Queen's Indian Averbakh and a London setup with a poisoned pawn variation he clearly enjoys far too much, and you have a repertoire built almost entirely out of declinations of the word "no".

What a CemOnem Game Actually Looks Like

The numbers paint a clear picture of a player who does not win quickly. His average winning game runs to roughly 77 moves, and his average loss is not far behind at 66, meaning even when things go wrong he makes you earn it. About 76 percent of his games reach an endgame, which is a statistic that should not belong to a gambit player and yet here we are.

  • Wins by resignation: 4229. Wins by checkmate: 677. CemOnem does not often finish the job with a flourish, he simply squeezes until the opponent's patience snaps.
  • Comeback rate: 78.11 percent. Losing a piece early is apparently just part of the plan.
  • Win rate after losing a piece: 54.64 percent, which is genuinely alarming for anyone on the other side of the board.
  • First player to give check wins roughly 67 percent of the time in his games, and CemOnem gives a lot of checks, most of them with rooks.
  • He scores 64.73 percent against lower rated opponents and takes a respectable 29.3 percent against stronger ones, so the chaos travels well.

Rivals, Regulars and the People Who Know Him Too Well

Anyone who plays thousands of rapid games develops a social circle whether they want one or not. CemOnem's longest running acquaintance is David Dubinchik, a pairing that has happened 38 times and gone CemOnem's way with 28 wins, 8 losses and 2 draws. Familiarity has clearly not bred caution. A similar story exists against rajeshindia709, 37 meetings and 29 wins, and against oldbagoftricks, 22 games and only 4 defeats, which suggests some opponents know exactly what is coming and still cannot stop it.

Not every rivalry is so one-sided. timi071 has taken 13 games off him across 34 meetings, and ibrahim_samli actually leads the head to head with 13 wins to 7, a rare and commendable exception in a career largely built on winning the rematch.

The Three in the Morning Theory

CemOnem's most productive hour is 03:00, where his win rate climbs to 64.52 percent. His best day is Thursday at 59.99 percent, and his worst is Monday at 54.54, which is fair, because nobody is at their best on a Monday. Whether this reflects a genuine nocturnal genius or simply the fact that his opponents at that hour are half asleep is a question science has yet to answer.

He also holds a longest winning streak of 21 games and a longest losing streak of 10, which is a nicely symmetrical portrait of a player who rides the wave in both directions. Currently he is on a modest two game slide, which in CemOnem terms probably means another Diemer-Duhm is about to be played.

Where CemOnem Stands

With nearly 4,900 rapid wins to his name and a playing style built on equal parts preparation and provocation, CemOnem has quietly become one of the more distinctive rapid players around. He is not the sort of opponent who beats you with theory. He is the sort who beats you with a pawn sacrifice you did not expect, forty extra moves you did not want, and a rook check you definitely saw coming and could not avoid.

The gambits are still there. The 77 move wins are still there. And at three in the morning, somewhere, a game is being started.
