Coach’s Review for Zineb Dina Abdi
Hi Zineb! I went through your latest rapid games. Your chess is energetic and creative, but a few recurring patterns are holding back your rating climb. Below is a focused action plan.
1. What you already do well
- Active openings. You steer for dynamic positions instead of passively copying theory. In your win against teddyonslow2004 you punished an over-extended French set-up with 15 Nxf5!—a textbook clearance tactic. ()
- Tactical alertness. Forks and pins rarely escape you; several victories started with a sharp combination or sacrifice.
- Piece activity. You value open lines and aren’t afraid to trade a pawn for the initiative—an excellent habit at your level.
2. Repeating difficulties
- Early tactical accidents in the Ruy López (Black). In the loss to oldchess69 7…Bg4? walked into 8.Qxg7! and the game ended immediately. Memorise the Exchange-Ruy traps: delay …Bg4 until the king is tucked away and your queen guards g7.
- Clock management. Two recent defeats (vs. ImPieman and vitopop2005) were on time despite holdable endings. Try the “30-20-10” routine: 30 s for the first deep think, 20 s to calculate, 10 s to blunder-check. In quiet positions make a habit of moving within 10 s.
- End-game technique. With material advantages you often push flank pawns before centralising the king, allowing counter-play (games vs. S4hv & WastedTalentFG). Review rook endings—Lucena, Philidor, the “cut-off king”—until you can convert them in your sleep.
3. Opening tune-up (next 14 days)
| Your side | Current weapon | Homework |
|---|---|---|
| White vs. Pirc/Modern | 4.Be3 line | Memorise the critical 9…Nd4 ideas and the c3-d4 space clamp. |
| Black vs. 1.e4 | Sicilian & Caro-Kann | Pick one main line and learn ten moves deep so you save clock time. |
| Black vs. 1.d4 | QGD / Catalan structures | Study the pawn-sac ideas that cost the vitopop2005 game. |
4. Tactical & positional drill menu
- 20 puzzles/day at 85 % accuracy. Theme mix: back-rank mates, zwischenzugs, minor-piece endgames.
- Play King-and-pawn & rook-and-pawn table-base drills vs. engine until conversion feels automatic.
- Analyse one classical game featuring the isolated d-pawn every evening.
5. Progress tracker
Your current 2163 (2021-09-03) is strong; aim for +50 elo in four weeks. Use these charts to spot good & bad days:
6. Next lesson preview
- Spotting critical moments—learning to ask “What has changed?” every move.
- Transforming an attack into a won ending without losing momentum.
Keep the energy, refine the discipline, and those narrow defeats will flip to confident wins. Looking forward to our next session!
