Gabriel Marques: The Bullet Chess Marathoner

Some people play chess. Gabriel Marques, known on the server as Gabriel_MS2275, apparently moved in with it. Since March 2021 he has played more than 34,000 games, the vast majority in bullet chess, where the clock is less a timer and more a second opponent quietly holding a knife.

The origin story is humble. In his first months he bottomed out at 850 in bullet and, during one particularly dark stretch of rapid chess, touched 310, a number he has politely asked historians to treat as a typo. Five years later he had climbed to a bullet peak of 2503 (2025-11-20), with blitz brushing 2455 and rapid topping 2200 along the way.

The Long Climb

Progress came the honest way: volume. Hundreds of games a month, thousands per season, a slow tide of endgame grinds and flag-fueled scrambles. There was an 11-game winning streak to celebrate and a 13-game losing streak to survive. Both happened. He queued for the next game anyway, which might be the most important statistic in this entire biography.

The Opening Workshop

As Black, the Caro-Kann Defense is home. More than 7,000 of his games have featured it in some form, and he answers 1.e4 with it so reliably that opponents could practically unpack their luggage on move one. As White, he opens 1.e4 almost religiously and then reaches for the Vienna Gambit and its Max Lange lines, a weapon that has paid out a 54% win rate in bullet.

The workshop also has experimental corners. The Amar Gambit has been deployed over 1,600 times in bullet, and in 2023 he opened with 1.f3 more than a thousand times, a bold experiment proving that confidence and good ideas are different skills. Recent results, including a 62.5% score with the Vienna in early 2026, suggest the research is going well.

How He Wins (and How He Loses)

  • Wins on time nearly 6,500 times, about two and a half times as often as by checkmate. In bullet, the flag is mightier than the sword.
  • Has been checkmated 8,972 times, yet resigns early in 89% of lost positions. When a game is dead, Gabriel does not hold the funeral; checkmate simply beats him to the paperwork.
  • Checks with the rook over 28,000 times, more than any other piece, roughly the way other people say hello.
  • Grinds: 81% of his games reach a real endgame, average wins run about 85 moves, and only about 2% of his losses are one-sided blowouts.
  • Still wins 44% of games after dropping a piece. Losing material is a scheduling inconvenience, not a verdict.
  • Beats lower-rated opponents about 70% of the time and loses to higher-rated ones around two-thirds of the time. The food chain remains intact and honest.
  • Has collected 320 stalemate draws, proof that sometimes even the rook says no.
  • Rated chess costs him roughly 12 points of win rate compared to casual games. Casual Gabriel is, frankly, the scary one.

Rivals, Nemesis, and the Morning Session

Every grinder keeps a ledger. Luiz has faced him 48 times and leads the series 26 to 17, at which point it stopped being a matchup and became a subscription. sharp310 is the rare perfectly balanced rivalry at 11-10-1, while wolvez_20 is one of the few opponents Gabriel actually pushes around, 8-5-4 and counting.

Then there is the clock on the wall. His win rate at 8 a.m. is 60%, the best hour on his schedule by a mile, while 11 a.m. dips to a grim 41.7%. Pair that with a tilt factor of just 13, low enough to be certified calm, and morning bullet plus Gabriel becomes a legitimately dangerous combo. With a blitz peak of 2455 set in February 2026, the next milestone is not a fantasy, and given his track record he will not chase it with talent. He will chase it the way he got everything else: one more click on the queue button.
