Hi garbatchov!

You’ve played a lot of energetic games lately and there is clear progress in your tactical vision and confidence. Below is a personalised review of your recent play, followed by a concrete study plan.

What’s already working

  • Active piece play. In several wins (e.g. vs MarshValo and itadorei) you rapidly mobilised the army and kept the initiative until check-mate.
  • Tactical alertness. Your 22.Rdxe8# miniature in the Scandinavian shows you can spot forcing sequences when the position calls for it.
  • Stamina in long endings. The 65-move conversion against itadorei proves you don’t panic when the quick knockout isn’t there.

Main growth areas

  1. Unsafe opening choices with …f5/f4 & Traxler-style ideas.
These lines are fun, yet at your current level they often backfire sooner than they succeed. The two most recent losses (see diagram below) came directly from early f-pawn thrusts that weakened your king.
  2. Ignoring development & king safety.
Several quick defeats happen before move 12 because pieces are still on the back rank while the opponent attacks.
  3. Time management.
Blitz tempo is fine, but in 10-minute games you sometimes make “blitz” moves in critical positions. Invest those extra seconds to blunder-check.

Opening roadmap (next 4 weeks)

Keep the openings simple and principled so you can focus on middlegame ideas:

  • As White – play the Italian “slow” plan: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 followed by d4. It limits early tactics against f2.
  • As Black vs 1.e4 – choose either
    • the Classical Two-Knights with 4…d6 instead of 4…Bc5, or
    • a solid Scandinavian (1…d5, 2…Nf6) which you already used successfully.
Skip the premature Latvian Gambit/Traxler ideas for now.
  • As Black vs 1.d4 – start with a basic Queen’s Gambit Declined setup: …d5, …e6, …Nf6, …Be7, …O-O.

Middlegame & tactics routine

  • Daily 15 minutes on tactic puzzles; focus on pins, forks, and double attacks.
  • When analysing, always answer “what changed?” after every move – this habit will expose loose pieces and forcing replies.
  • Review your own decisive mistakes first; you’ll learn faster from blunders than from perfect games.

Endgame checklist

Your rook technique is decent, but polish the basics:

  • Lucena & Philidor rook endings once a week.
  • King + pawn vs king conversions – keep opposition concepts fresh.

Next steps

  1. Play 10 games with the “slow Italian” as White – annotate two of them.
  2. Replace every speculative …f5 or …Nxe4 tactic with one quiet developing move for one week; note the score difference.
  3. Share an annotated loss with me; we’ll dive deeper into strategic motifs.

Keep the fighting spirit, clean up the opening repertoire, and your rating will climb quickly. Good luck at the board!
