Godwin Liem (aka godwinjoseph052)

Once a fledgling tactician battling the mysterious forces of blunder and time trouble, Godwin Liem has evolved into a formidable chess presence known for his tenacity, creativity, and a near-mystical ability to comeback from dire positions. Starting with humble blitz ratings under 900 in 2019, Godwin’s persistence propelled him up the ladder to a blitz peak of 2548 by 2023—enough to give grandmasters a respectful nod (or at least a chuckle)!

Godwin is a master of speed chess — particularly bullet and blitz — where his lightning-fast intuition and tactical awareness shine. With a staggering 85.95% comeback rate and an almost unbelievable 99.18% win rate after losing a piece, Godwin turns adversity into opportunity faster than you can say “checkmate.” Opponents beware: he’s the kind who smiles right before unleashing a devastating counterattack. His longest winning streak is an impressive 12 games, proving he can ride a hot streak like a pro surfer riding the perfect wave.

Playing Style & Stats

  • Average moves per win: 75 — he’s not one for quick draws, preferring rich, strategic battles.
  • Early resignation rate: a humble 2.6% — Godwin hates quitting almost as much as losing pawns.
  • Endgame specialist: Appears in 63% of his games, showing stamina and skill long after the opening fireworks.
  • Color advantage: Slightly better with White (45.39% win rate) than Black (40.94%), but still dangerous on either side.

Time-of-Day and Day-of-Week Wizardry

Like a modern-day chess ninja, Godwin’s performance ebbs and flows with the hours:

  • Best hour? The 15th hour of the day (3pm) where he boasts a 66.67% win rate.
  • Weekends are almost sacred: Sunday wins at 48.67% and Friday follows closely at 48.57%.

Famous Opponents & Rivals

He’s tangled on the virtual board with hundreds of opponents. His most frequent sparring partner is seanwinshand, though their win rate suggests a fierce rivalry (Godwin wins just shy of 6%!). For those opponents lucky (or unlucky) enough to face him for the first time, beware: Godwin has a long list of players with 100% defeat rate under his belt, showcasing his uncanny ability to prepare and pounce.

Quirks & Personality

Godwin’s chess journey can be summed up in one word: resilience. Whether he’s clawing back from a lost piece or navigating the murky waters of tilt (at a 32% tilt factor—higher than your average chess warrior), his passion for the game carries him through. He plays with humor, grit, and an unshakeable love for the 64 squares, proving every day that checkmate isn’t just an endgame—but a way of life.

So if you find yourself matched against Godwin, buckle up and prepare for a rollercoaster ride of tactical fireworks, strategic maneuvering, and perhaps a healthy dose of schadenfreude when you realize you just lost a game you thought you had in the bag.

Performance Review for Godwin Liem

Personal best so far: 2548 (2023-07-18).

Key Strengths

  • Dynamic pawn play. You time pawn breaks (c4-c5, e4-e5, f4-f5) well and convert space into tactical chances, e.g. 17.d5! in your win over Practical-Play.
  • Alertness to king safety – especially the opponent’s. The miniature vs ferch1ni shows exemplary development and piece invasion once Black played 3…Kf7.
  • Clock handling. You generally reach time scrambles with a useful buffer and have scored several wins on the clock from equal or slightly worse positions (vs jeecon20).

Recurring Improvement Themes

  1. Central tension <early>.
Two recent losses (vs Marcus Vinicius Moreira Santos and SonOfGuac) followed 6…c5/…d5 breaks that exploded your centre after you castled. • Review East-Indian and Grünfeld structures; practise positions where …d5! is a tactical resource.
    • Mini-quiz: after 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 d6 5.O-O c5 6.c4 cxd4 7.Nxd4 Nxd4 8.Qxd4 d5!? find a line that uses a Zwischenzug to equalise.
  2. Material grabbing vs activity.
In the game with SonOfGuac you spent three tempi taking a pawn (18.Qxa7?!) while Black mobilised everything and broke through. Train a simple “loose-piece checklist” before accepting material:
    • Can the captured piece be trapped?
    • Will my queen be chased to the rim?
    • Does my opponent gain two tempi?
  3. Handling the Queen’s Gambit Accepted.
Against CFalcons8 you reached the well-known tabiya after 8…Bxc5 yet failed to follow the classical plan (9.Nc3 e4, Bg5, Rac1). Build a 12-move cheat-sheet for this line and blitz it out in training games.
  4. Time allocation at critical moments.
Most decisive blunders occurred within the first 25 s of a new position. Force yourself to spend at least 4–5 s whenever (a) the pawn structure changes or (b) a forcing sequence begins; 12.Qd3? vs abruptum would likely have been avoided.

Four-Week Training Plan

DayThemeWorkload
Mon / Wed / FriOpeningsFlash-cards of first 12 moves vs …c5 & …d5. Finish with 5 rapid games applying the lines.
Tue / ThuTactics3 Puzzle-Rush runs aiming for 35+. Store every failed pattern.
SaturdayEndgamePlay 5 random rook-and-pawn endgames vs engine (depth 10) focusing on creating a passer.
