Who Is kratoaster?
kratoaster is the username of an online chess grinder whose name sounds like a legendary warrior fused with a kitchen appliance, and whose play delivers on both halves. Active since August 2019, the account has stacked up more than 6,300 rated games across bullet, blitz, and rapid, with blitz chess as the declared home arena. The trademarks: a wildlife sanctuary of offbeat openings, endgame patience borrowed from a much slower era, and a refusal to resign that borders on the unreasonable.
The Long Preheat: 2019 to 2024
Debuting around 1455 in rapid chess, kratoaster scrambled into the 1800s within months and was knocking on 2000 in blitz by the fall of 2020. Then came the wall: nearly five years spent circling the 2000 to 2200 zone, politely rapping on the door of the next class and being told the shop was closed. Even the plateau had hints of the future, including a 13-game winning streak and a late-2024 push toward 2300 in rapid. The toaster was preheating.
The 2025 Breakout
Then 2025 detonated. April alone featured 367 bullet games, and blitz stormed from the low 2100s all the way to 2670 (2025-11-22) by November. Bullet ran the same race, peaking at 2693 (2026-02-23) in February 2026. Five years of patience, repaid in one gloriously unhinged year of volume.
A Repertoire With a Pterodactyl in It
Most strong bullet players open with 1.e4 and behave. kratoaster has played the Amar Gambit, which begins with the politely bizarre 1.Nh3, hundreds of times, wins slightly more than half of those games, and dares the chess world to file a complaint. The Nimzo-Larsen Attack gets similar affection, and the collection also features the Colle System: Rhamphorhynchus Variation, a genuine named pterosaur, because apparently this repertoire went feral at some point.
As Black, the dependable Caro-Kann Defense does the heavy lifting, flanked by the Scandinavian Defense, the Modern, and the Australian Defense. There is even a Barnes Defense habit, because 1...f3 is apparently a lifestyle choice. By 2026, kratoaster had opened with 1.e4 a grand total of nineteen times. Nineteen.
- White: Amar Gambit, Nimzo-Larsen Attack, King's Indian Attack setups, occasional doses of the London System: Poisoned Pawn Variation
- Black: Caro-Kann Defense, Scandinavian Defense, Modern, Czech Defense
- Deep cut: the Scotch Game, which once produced 20 wins from 21 games back in 2020
Style: The Comeback Appliance
The numbers read like a marathon runner's diary. Roughly 75 percent of games reach an endgame, average wins stretch to nearly 80 moves, and the first capture usually waits until move 7, because violence should never be rushed. The comeback rate is an absurd 90.33 percent, and even after dropping a piece, kratoaster still wins about 45 percent of those games. One-sided losses barely exist at 3.32 percent, the early resignation rate sits at a defiant 1.59 percent, and the tilt factor is a statue-like 9. The clock is a weapon too: 869 wins by timeout and counting. When kratoaster checks you, odds are good it is a rook, delivered without an apology.
The Rival Report
Some opponents are field trips and some are haunted houses. goooggle is the field trip: 16 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, a record so spotless it reads like libel. Nelson M, Ii Lopez has been outscored 12-2, while ugetting sits at a perfectly agonizing 11-11, the chess equivalent of a coin flip that never lands. And then there is Vesna Bogdanovic, the certified nemesis at 3-10, living proof that even a comeback machine has one door it knocks on at its own risk. The longest losing streak ever recorded here is just nine games, which honestly feels like a moral victory.
