Hi Lon0001! đź‘‹ Great string of games today.
What you’re already doing well
- Consistent opening repertoire. Almost every game starts with 1.e4 (as White) or 1…e5 (as Black), so you’re getting lots of repetition in familiar structures. That’s the fastest way to improve in blitz.
- Tactical alertness. In your win against ko1703 you spotted 30…Qxc4! exploiting the overloaded rook on c4. Similar tactics (15.Nxc7+, 24.Rxg7+) appear in several victories—keep sharpening that eye.
- Clock handling. Even in sharp positions you usually keep ~30–40 seconds in reserve. That safety buffer saves many half-points in 3 + 2.
Three themes to focus on next
-
King safety before pawn storms.
• Game vs. Vellattapokkerr (Caro-Kann) showed the danger of throwing g- and h-pawns without finishing development—your king stayed in the center and Black’s counter-attack was decisive.
• Guideline: castle first, connect your rooks, then launch a pawn storm. Use the principle of prophylaxis—ask “What can my opponent hit if I push this pawn?” -
Over-reliance on early …h6 / …g5 as Black.
In several Italian-Game losses you played …h6, …g5, …Bxh3 very quickly. Against precise play that plan leaves dark-square holes (f5, h5). Try the classical setup instead:1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 Nf6 5.d4 exd4 6.cxd4 Bb4+
This keeps the pawn shield intact and lets you develop smoothly. -
Transition to the endgame.
Many of your wins end before move 35, but when material is equal you sometimes drift (see the abandoned loss vs. narsilog—position was still playable). Practice converting small advantages:- Activate the king the moment queens leave the board.
- Double rooks on open files; trade one pair only when it wins a pawn.
- Keep a mental “endgame checklist”: King activity • Passed pawns • Piece coordination.
Opening homework (takes 20-30 minutes)
- As White: Learn the mainline of the Ruy Lopez up to move 8 so you know typical plans after 6…Be7 and 6…b5.
- As Black vs. 1.e4: Add one solid response (e.g., Petroff or Classical Caro-Kann). Playing the same lines reduces preparation time.
- As Black vs. 1.d4: You already start with 1…d5 2…dxc4. Study the idea of quick …c5 and …Nc6 in the Queen’s Gambit Accepted to avoid long defensive tasks.
Next-step drill plan
- 10 tactics/day rated ≥1800 on Chess.com or Lichess. Focus on themes: double attack, clearance, back-rank.
- Play three 15 + 10 games/week, annotate one of them, and compare with engine. Slower games cement the lessons blitz uncovers.
- Create a personal “Do not move” list—moves you often play too early (…h6, g-pawn pushes, queen sorties). Check that list before committing in the first 15 moves.
