Coach Chesswick
Hi Juan! Great effort lately—your fighting spirit really shows on the board.
What you’re doing well
- Tactical alertness. Your recent mating nets (e.g. 27.Rf6# against overlordnek) prove you spot combinations quickly.
- Opening creativity. You’re comfortable with off-beat first moves (1.c3, 1.Nc3, even early Qf3). Against unprepared opponents this scores nicely.
- Pressure with Black. In the win versus voitka you equalised fast, then converted an outside passed c-pawn into a decisive attack. Excellent technique after 15…Nc6!
Main growth areas
-
King safety & restraint in sharp lines.
In several losses your king stayed in the centre too long—or you pushed pawns in front of it.
Example from the defeat to s3boy1: • Castling instead of 10…Kxf7 would have avoided the later mating net.
➜ Habit goal: Before touching a pawn, ask “Will this delay my own castling?” -
Simplify calculation with solid openings.
Alekhine’s Defence (1…Nf6) and early …b5 ideas demand precise play; when the calculations slip, you end up under attack. Consider adding a more positional backup such as the French Defence or Caro-Kann so you’re not always forced into hand-to-hand tactics. -
Converting material edges without rushing.
You sometimes allow counter-play after winning material (see 24…Nc6? against dariloktavian). Study a few classical conversion games—focus on improving your worst piece first, then trading attackers. -
Clock management.
Two recent results were “lost on time”. When you’re under 30 seconds, enter “panic-free mode”: move on general principles (king safety, piece activity) instead of hunting for the very best move.
