Meherab Hosen, Ayaz: The Slow Burn That Became a Bonfire
Who Is Mehrab_Ayaz?
Meherab Hosen, Ayaz plays online as Mehrab_Ayaz and carries FIDE ID 532023472. That is the boring part of the introduction. The interesting part is the arc: a player who opened his account, fell as low as 843 in Rapid, kept showing up anyway, and eventually parked a peak Rapid rating of 2502 (2026-06-21) on the board in June 2026. Some players are prodigies. Meherab is a volume shooter, and the volume has been spectacular.
Across roughly 13,900 rated games in every format, the profile reads less like a career and more like a construction site where the scaffolding never came down and the building kept growing anyway.
The Rapid Climb, Told in One Chart
In May 2024 the Rapid rating sat in the 1300s, wobbled down to a floor of 843, then began a climb so steady it looks machine-drawn. There were 12,388 Rapid games in this dataset. That is not a hobby. That is a second job with worse lighting.
By December 2025 the rating had crossed 2,200. By spring 2026 it was knocking on 2,400, and in June 2026 it broke through to 2502 before gravity, as it always does, filed a complaint. The overall Rapid ledger of 5,483 wins, 5,837 losses and 1,068 draws tells the real story: this is somebody who plays absolutely everyone, and pays for the education in rating points.
The Czech Defense Habit
Every player has a comfort blanket. Meherab's is the Czech Defense, which he has faced or played 1,172 times in Rapid alone at a respectable 46.8 percent. It is his default answer to 1.e4 as Black, and by now he could probably run the opening in his sleep, possibly while asleep.
On the other side of the board, the Sicilian Defense: Alapin Variation is his most trodden path as White with 781 outings, though at 43.8 percent it is more of a reliable bus route than a weapon of mass destruction. The Blackburne Shilling Gambit shows up 345 times, which tells you everything about his taste: he would rather have a messy game with tricks in it than a clean one with symmetry.
One genuine weapon is the Colle sideline he has played 400 times for a 50.8 percent score, one of the few openings in his repertoire where the wins outnumber the losses. The Caro-Kann Defense is the opposite story: 382 games, 39.3 percent, and no apparent intention of stopping.
The Nemesis and the Favorite Customer
No chess biography is complete without the opponent who lives rent-free in the head. For Meherab it is pritamkunduchess, against whom he has played 153 games and lost 129 of them while winning 8 and drawing 16. That scoreline has the shape of a personal curse, and yet he keeps sitting down for another one, which is either admirable stubbornness or a very specific form of self-harm.
Then there is knightofbangladesh, against whom he is unbeaten in 21 games with 20 wins and a draw. Between those two rivalries sits the entire emotional range of the game.
Style Notes: Checks, Resignations and Ridiculous Comebacks
Meherab is not a cautious man. In 13,983 analyzed games he has delivered 42,466 checks against 39,375 received, and he was first to give check slightly more often than not. Being the first to check correlates with a 53.3 percent win rate for him, which is the closest this profile comes to a secret formula.
- Endgames happen: 74 percent of his games reach an endgame, so the middlegame brawl is usually just the appetizer.
- The average first capture lands on move 6.3, which is early enough to suggest that development is a rumor rather than a plan.
- He resigns instead of getting mated: 4,734 losses by resignation versus 1,426 by checkmate. Dignity, of a sort.
- He outscores lower-rated opponents 76.9 percent of the time and still takes 25.7 percent of games against higher-rated ones, which is how a rating climbs.
- His comeback rate of 83.4 percent suggests that a lost position is merely a position he has not yet rescued.
The Daily Grind
Despite all that Rapid noise, his stated preference is Daily, and the numbers back it up. The Daily record of 92 wins, 58 losses and 5 draws is his best percentage across formats, built on far fewer games and much more thought. He has beaten the rarely seen Barnes Defense 13 times out of 14 in Daily, which is the kind of niche dominance that wins absolutely no trophies but feels great.
His Daily rating chart spends two years loafing around 1,200 before making an abrupt vertical leap in October 2026 and printing a peak of 2407 (2026-10-29). Charts should not be allowed to do that, and yet here we are.
For the record, 18:00 is his golden hour, a win rate of 75 percent, while 23:00 is a catastrophe zone. Schedule accordingly.
A Sample Czech Defense

What Comes Next
Blitz sits at 1,531 and Bullet at 1,624, both lagging far behind the Rapid engine, which means there is a weekend of speed chess somewhere in his future that will either fix that gap or produce 400 more games of evidence. The Rapid peak of 2502 is already banked.
Meherab Hosen, Ayaz is not the most polished player in the database, but he might be the most persistent. He plays, he loses, he plays again, and somewhere in that pile of 12,000 Rapid games, the rating started climbing and never really stopped.
