Coach’s Feedback for mirabellier1

What you already do well

  • Consistent opening choices. As Black you rely on the Caro-Kann (…c6/…d5/…Bf5) and on the Queen’s-Pawn set-ups with …c6 against 1.d4. This gives you a familiar pawn structure every game and you clearly understand the typical breaks …c5 and …e5.
  • Spotting tactical shots once the position opens. Your recent wins show you seizing tactics such as 28…Bxe3+ (vs rawe1) and 18…Nxd3+ (vs Aliwa01). You rarely miss an opportunity once the combination is obvious.
  • End-game conversion. In several wins you simplified to rook endings and converted confidently, for example 31…Nxd4 followed by mass exchanges against alij8000.

Biggest improvement opportunities

  1. Control impulsive pawn thrusts on the flank.
Pushes such as h4–h5 (vs Aliwa01) or early g-pawns often left weak squares behind you. Try to ask “What does this pawn leave undefended?” before advancing it.
  2. King safety in the centre.
Three of your last five losses came before you castled. In the loss vs mcpetruha you played 15.Qxh6? and allowed …Qxe5+, losing instantly.
    Critical fragment:
  3. Tactical alertness just before exchanging.
You often initiate trades (e.g. 10…Bxc3+ vs superiorwang6) without checking the recapture sequence, handing the opponent tempi or releasing tension.
  4. Practical time management.
Even in winning games you reached <15 seconds. Try “increment training” sessions or setting a checkpoint (e.g. >2:30 on move 15) to keep time in reserve for the critical phase.

Opening landmarks to focus on this month

  • Caro-Kann: Advance 4.c4 line. Your game vs superiorwang6 shows the typical idea 5…c5 (immediate strike in the centre) rather than the slower …e6 Bb4. Add this line to your repertoire notes.
  • Queen’s Gambit as White. After 6…cxd4 (Slav) you reached an IQP you handled well, but missed the thematic e4 break. Review one model game by Rubinstein or Kramnik to see how the pressure is built.

Notice how quickly your tactical eye wins games once the pieces are developed and the king is safe. Anchor every game around those two principles and you will climb fast. Good luck, and see you at the next review!
