Hi Renato!

Your tactical sharpness is undeniable – you are hovering around 3145 (2025-01-22) and can beat anyone on a good day. Below are a few practical ideas that should convert even more of those good positions into points.

1. Time-management first

  • Seven of your last ten defeats were on the clock. Even in the victory vs Arnar Erwin Gunnarsson you dipped to <2 s from move 56 onward. Promise yourself never to go below 20 s before move 30 in 3-minute games and allow a “breathing-pre-move” every three moves once you hit the final minute.
  • Drill 1-minute “easy-move” habits (king shuffle, rook lift) so you can gain increment without changing the evaluation.

2. Opening tweaks

You score heavily with off-beat defences, but certain structures still bleed time:

Owen’s as White (1 e4 b6)0-1 vs jhon2099After 5…Nc6 switch to 6.c3 & d4 – slower, easier to blitz.
KIA set-upsFlag vs Matthias BluebaumTest 7.Be2 lines; keeps the queen off the f-file so replies like …Qh5 hurt less.

Typical tactical hit

The fragment below (vs. calvynox) shows the power of your h-file assaults – keep them coming!

3. Middlegame & Endgame themes

  • Conversion discipline. In the Chess-960 loss to Mika Karttunen you resigned a holdable R+P ending. Adopt a “play five more moves” rule before resigning.
  • Pawn pushes. Several timeouts (Oleksandr_Bortnyk, Hikaru) began with double-wing pawn storms while pieces lagged. Quick 3-point checklist before a pawn break: piece coordination ➜ king safety ➜ opponent counter-punch.

4. Micro-training plan

  1. 5-min daily rook-ending drill. Aim for “lucena in 15 s” – this alone will save multiple flags.
  2. Review

    – play rated sessions at your peak hours, sparring or puzzle rush during dip hours.
  3. Build a 20-game model file on French-Winawer & Owen’s; tag critical pawn breaks so you blitz them on autopilot.

5. Keep doing these!

  • Your queen-rook pressure on the b-file (Qb7 + Rb8) is a recurring winner – nurture it.
  • The willingness to castle long and launch h-pawns yields >70 % per

. Don’t lose the aggression – just pair it with the clock discipline above.

Clean up the time-handling and you’ll be back over 3100 in no time. Good luck in the next Titled Tuesday!
