Hi mslojo! Your last few Rapid (10 | 0) games give a clear picture of where you already shine and where a little focused work can bring fast rating gains.

What you’re doing well ✅

  • Tactical eye: You regularly spot forks, skewers and mating nets. The miniature below is a great example of clean tactical conversion.

  • Piece activity early in the game: Knights jump into e5/c5/f5, bishops are usually developed before you push side-pawns, and you castle quickly in most wins.
  • Confidence in open positions: Exchange lines against the Caro-Kann and Scandinavian suit your style—lots of open files and targets.

Growth opportunities 📈

  1. Time-management is costing points. Four of the six recent losses were won-on-time in roughly equal or better positions.
    • Play a few games with a 5-second increment to practise moving “on the beep”.
    • Adopt a personal rule: aim to be above 5:00 on move 15 and above 2:00 on move 30. If you’re below the target, simplify instead of calculating deep forcing lines.
  2. Avoid early queen adventures. In several Queen’s-Pawn losses you spent tempi on Qd3–Qc3–Qe3 or Qa4+–Qd1. Those detours slowed development and invited tactics against you.
    • Promise yourself the queen won’t move twice in the first ten moves unless you’re winning material.
    • Study one model game in the Colle/London each day to learn smooth, tempo-saving development.
  3. Pawn-structure discipline. Pushing the h- and g-pawns early (see the loss vs Its_Soham) left dark-square holes around your king.
    • Before making a pawn move, ask “Can it be attacked by a minor piece immediately?” If yes, consider a developing move instead.
    • Review terms like weakness and outpost to guide pawn decisions.
  4. Endgame technique. You were a rook up but still flagged vs Its_Soham. A little end-game practice will let you convert those every time.
    • Drill basic mates (rook + king vs king) until you can finish within 20 seconds.
    • Then move on to king-and-pawn races; they occur often after your tactical middlegames.

Mini study plan for the next 14 days 🗓️

  • Daily: 10–15 puzzles rated 300-500 above your current tactics rating (to push your calculation ceiling).
  • Every other day: play one 15 | 10 game focusing only on clock discipline—no blitz until the 15 | 10 session is finished.
  • Weekly: annotate one of your own games (win and loss) and write down a single takeaway.
