Coach Chesswick
Hi nn1006!
What you are already doing well
- Playing principled openings. Almost every game starts with 1.e4 and quick development of knights and bishops. This gives you an immediate foothold in the centre and fast piece activity.
- A good eye for forcing moves. In your recent win against ryuk6sama you combined checks, captures and threats to keep the initiative and convert a difficult rook & pawn ending. Your 53. h8=Q showed confidence in queening tactics.
- Conversion of material advantages. When you reach a winning position you are usually able to trade down and simplify calmly (see 28.Rxe3+ followed by 29.Rd3+ in the same game).
Key areas to improve
- King safety in the early middlegame.
Your only loss on 05 June was decided when White delivered 17.Qxh7# before you could neutralise threats on the dark squares: • Castling before launching pawn breaks or piece sorties would have prevented this tactic.
• Remember the “safety checklist”: after each move ask, “Are there any checks against my king?” - Avoiding premature piece exchanges.
Several losses feature trades like …Nxe4 or …Bxf3 that remove your own defenders and open lines for your opponent. Before exchanging, verify that the resulting position improves your piece activity or pawn structure. - Pawn-structure awareness.
In the game vs rizz2828 you allowed …b5 and …Rc5 to target your isolated e-pawn and weak dark squares. When you play d4/e4 set-ups, keep an eye on backwards pawns created by early captures.
Action plan for the next two weeks
- Opening tune-up. Add one solid reply to 1.e4 such as the Classical Pirc or the Scandinavian. Fewer openings = deeper understanding.
- Daily tactics (10 min). Focus on patterns with mates on h7/h2, double attacks and in-between moves (Zwischenzugs). Your rating range sees these themes constantly.
- Play “king-in-the-middle” training games. Start every game un-castled for the first 8 moves; your only goal is to castle safely without material loss. This sharpens your danger radar.
- Endgame basics. Spend one session on rook & pawn versus rook. Your win vs Ryuk6Sama was good, yet some moves (e.g., 40…Rxc3?) let the advantage slip. Knowing the theoretical drawing zones will help you convert faster.
- Track your improvement with and after 30 rapid games.
Motivation corner
Your current peak rating 705 (2025-06-12) is within reach of 650+. Keep analysing every finished game for one critical turning point and write a one-sentence lesson. Small habits compound quickly—see you at 700!
