Onegust: FIDE Master and Bullet Chess Shark
The Short Version
Onegust is a FIDE Master whose username reads like a weather advisory for your rating: one gust, and your position blows over. Behind the name is a relentless 1.e4 player, a marathon endgame fighter, and one of the busiest grinders the online chess queues have ever hosted, with more than 3,200 blitz wins across roughly 7,400 blitz games and a peak of 2935 (2025-12-22) that landed in December 2025 after a climb best described as impolite.
- Title: FIDE Master
- Battlegrounds: Blitz by volume, bullet by preference
- Signature: 1.e4, rook lifts, and resigning just before you get to enjoy your advantage
- Peak hours: 05:00, when the coffee is strong and the tactics are stronger
The Rise
The archive tells a fun story. Onegust appeared in mid-2018, played 823 blitz games in August of that year alone, and settled into the 2500s by 2019. Then came a long, quiet grind through 2021 to 2023, the chess equivalent of a bear preparing for something. That something was 2025: roughly 360 blitz points gained in a single year, capped by a 2935 (2025-12-22) peak and a long residency in the 2800s that has not really ended since.
The Bullet Habit
Ask Onegust for a game and the clock is probably set to bullet. The all-time bullet scorecard looks deceptively even (184 wins, 190 losses), but recent form is anything but: from 2331 in December 2025 to 2660 (2026-02-08) by February 2026. Strength-adjusted, the bullet win rate sits above 53%, and certain pet lines get silly, with the Sicilian Defense at 68.75%, the Benoni Gambit Accepted at 75%, and the Nimzo-Larsen Attack at a cool 72.73% with Black.
The Repertoire
White games open with 1.e4 the overwhelming majority of the time; 1.d4 appears occasionally, presumably to confuse historians. The Scotch Game is the workhorse at 366 blitz games, the Caro-Kann and French Defense are met with patience, and anyone brave enough to try the Barnes Defense (1...f6) has donated a 58.6% win rate to the cause. Against the Sicilian, the Nyezhmetdinov-Rossolimo Attack is the best weapon at over 55% from 130 games.
With Black, it is the Najdorf Sicilian or nothing: 492 games on the black side and 744 Najdorf-labelled games in total. There is also a committed romantic streak, including 156 games of the Budapest Gambit at a 34% win rate, plus the Döry Defense and the Amar Gambit, because winning is optional but style is not.
The Nemesis Archive
Nobody plays past 7,000 games without collecting rivals. caraguru is the most frequent dance partner at 53 games (20 wins, 30 losses, 3 draws). Bojan Maksimović is a perfectly balanced 17-17-2, basically a coin flip with extra steps. Then there is SpanishChessCoach, who has won 39 of 49 meetings and presumably charges for lessons. Markus Ragger leads 22-4 in a 26-game series that Onegust keeps scheduling anyway, which tells you everything about the competitive spirit involved.
Quirks and Numbers
- 82.3% of games reach an endgame, and wins average over 81 moves. This is a marathon runner with a bullet habit.
- Early resignation rate of 62%: when it is lost, it is lost, and the next challenge is already loading.
- One-sided loss rate of just 1%: defeats arrive with complications, counterplay, and regret for the opponent.
- A comeback rate north of 90%, plus a 42% win rate even after dropping a piece. Do not celebrate early.
- The rook is the most common checking piece by a landslide, with over 8,200 rook checks. Rook lifts are a personality trait.
- Longest win streak: 11. Longest losing streak: 10. Storms pass.
- Best hour is 05:00 at 66.7%, worst day is Saturday. Sleep schedule: optional.
- Fewer than 500 draws in 7,400 blitz games. Draws are for other people.
