Pratik Patil (Onwgs): The Candidate Master Who Barely Loses
Pratik Patil, known to opponents and occasional victims as Onwgs, is a FIDE Candidate Master whose online chess results look like an accounting error. In rapid chess, Pratik has stacked up 576 wins against just 26 losses, plus 14 draws, a ratio so lopsided that statisticians initially assumed it was a prank. It was not a prank.
From 1600 to Carnage
Pratik arrived in August 2018 as a humble 1600-level blitz player. Within a year the rating graph went vertical, and by 2020 the blitz peak had touched 2499 (2020-04-21). A bullet ceiling of 2537 (2026-02-16) followed in early 2026, along the way powered by a 55-game winning streak, the kind of run where you start apologizing to your opponents around move ten.
The Arsenal
Every great player has a signature, and Pratik's is the Blackburne Shilling Gambit, arguably the internet's most disrespectable opening, which here performs like a supercomputer: 69 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws in rapid play. The rest of the repertoire reads just as rude:
- Petrov's Defense: 29 games, 29 wins in rapid. Not a single draw. Petrov would be proud, or terrified.
- French Defense: a spotless 14-0 in blitz.
- Sicilian Defense: Alapin Variation: the loyal workhorse, with 92 blitz games and a 73.9% win rate.
- Elephant Gambit and Barnes Defense: both perfect 100% scores in rapid, because apparently mainlines are optional.
Behold the infamous gambit in all its questionable glory:
Rivalries
No biography is complete without a nemesis, and Pratik has several:
- skipper_chess: the most-played opponent at 163 games, standing at 140 wins, 12 losses and 11 draws. A rivalry, technically.
- brawlstars27: 150 games and a 136-11-3 scoreline, which is what happens when your favorite sparring partner keeps showing up.
- mouli97: 37 games, 37 wins, zero losses. There are very few more one-sided records in existence.
- megaladon2000: 21-0. At some point this stops being a matchup and becomes a subscription service.
How Pratik Plays
- Resigns early only 1.61% of the time. Losing a piece means nothing here; the win rate after dropping material sits at a heroic 78.3%, with over two-thirds of lost positions clawed back.
- Wins average 58 moves, losses average 74. Beating Pratik is a full-time grinding job, not a quick job.
- The longest losing streak ever recorded is five games, which is practically a rounding error.
- Saturday is the best day of the week at an 89% win rate, and the sweet spot is 23:00. Late-night chess is clearly peak performance.
- The queen is the favorite checking piece by a landslide, with more than 2,100 checks delivered and counting.
- In 2026 the white repertoire pivoted to 1.d4, fueling a fresh surge past 2400 in both blitz and bullet.
The Legacy So Far
Pratik Patil is living proof that a Candidate Master title is merely the floor. With a bullet peak of 2537, a near-unbreakable rapid record, and a Blackburne Shilling Gambit that has personally embarrassed hundreds of opponents, Onwgs is the account you double-check before challenging. And if you must challenge, do it on a weekday morning. Saturday nights, apparently, belong to Pratik.
