What He Plays
Petr likes opening reconnaissance. Give him a d-pawn and a little time and he will quietly steer the game into his favourite structures. He is devastating with Black in the classic Sicilian Defense: Scheveningen Variation, and he has a soft spot for the Czech Defense, which he plays with national pride and remarkable patience.
As White, he is not shy about entering the complex King's Indian Defense: Sämisch Variation, Bobotsov-Korchnoi-Petrosian Variation. The result is a player who wins from both sides of the same hedgehog and never seems to run out of manoeuvring ideas.
Comeback Potential
If you see Petr lose a piece, stay alert. His data suggests he wins roughly 61% of the games after dropping material, and his comeback rate is a stunning 81.9%. In fact, one of his most repeated one-sided victories came against regular sparring partner neplecha.
