Nelson Lujan sails the online chess world under the flag of Pirateando, Spanish for "pirating," and he has been raiding boards since 2018. His 240 bullet battles produced 148 wins and a personal-best 2371 (2021-09-02), with a blitz best of 2231 (2021-10-03) along the way, but his true hunting ground is Rapid, where the ledger reads like buried treasure: 18 wins, 2 losses, zero draws. Pirates, it turns out, do not negotiate.

Rapid Waters: Nearly Unsinkable

In Rapid, Nelson wins 90% of the time, owns a 2202 (2023-03-26) peak from March 2023, and once ripped off a 12-game winning streak, his longest anywhere. One of the only two rapid blemishes came in the Alekhine-Chatard Attack of the French Defense; the other was presumably swallowed by the sea, because no opening in the logs will confess to it.

The Arsenal

As White, Nelson plays 1.e4 with the loyalty of a sailor to a single flag, occasionally experimenting with the Nimzo-Larsen Attack and Bird's Opening and living to regret it. The Caro-Kann Defense is the most common ship on his seas: with Black, the Classical Variation is his trusted sail, and facing it with White he trades happily in the Exchange Variation, 7-1 in bullet. The Sicilian Defense is his kraken in blitz, sinking all three attempts, though he went 2-for-2 against it in Rapid once given time to think.

Feuds on the High Seas

No rival has crossed cutlasses with leancasella05 more often: 51 duels, 39 wins for the pirate. VonPepper has tried 19 times and also sailed home behind, 13-4-2. miguel_e has never beaten him in eight meetings, while aga89 is one of the few captains with a winning record against him, 6-5-1. Choose your boarding parties wisely.

Style: Grind, Grit, and Queen Checks

Do not expect a quick broadside. Nelson's wins average about 73 moves, the endgame appears in over 83% of his games, and his early resignation rate is a microscopic 1.44%. Drop a piece on him and you may regret it: he wins nearly 59% of those games, and his overall comeback rate is a frankly rude 83.5%. The finishing blow usually comes from the queen, his favorite checking piece by a mile, and he has delivered checkmate in roughly 18% of analyzed games.

After a quiet spell, he returned in July 2025 with his deepest opening preparation on record, so the old sea dog may finally be studying the charts before the next raid.
