Piyush23: The Bullet Nightshift

Some players have a style; Piyush23 has a schedule. Active since 2012 and relentless since 2024, this grinder has stacked up more than 10,700 rated games, with the lion's share in bullet chess, the preferred time control. His blitz record of 2,551 wins against 2,449 losses is so perfectly balanced it could double as a coin flip study, but bullet is where the identity lives: 5,500+ games, thousands of flagged clocks, and a firm belief that any position is playable if you move fast enough.

The Long Road Back

The journey started in 2012 with a bullet rating near 1000 and a debut that already screamed volume, including 328 games in October alone. The rating climbed into the 1300s within months, then life happened: cameo appearances in 2015, 2016 and 2019, a blitz chess peak of 1709 (2021-06-17) in June 2021, and long silences between. In August 2024 he returned to bullet at 1099 and dropped both games that month. What followed is a genuinely good comeback arc: monthly loads of 100 to 260 games through 2025 and 2026, a climb past 1400 by spring, and a personal best of 1512 (2026-06-12) on June 12, 2026.

One Decade of d4, Then a Conversion

For his first twelve years, Piyush23 opened with 1.d4 about as reliably as the sun rises: 700 d-pawn openings in 2012 alone, with Queen's Gambit Accepted and Declined structures doing the heavy lifting, including a tidy 63% bullet score in QGA lines with 3.e3 c5. In 2023 came a brief flirtation with 1.b3 (75 games of Larsen energy), and by 2024 the conversion was complete: 1.Nf3, all day, 840 times in 2026 alone. The King's Indian Attack setup is now the flagship, with 284 games and a 55.6% score in 2026. The White toolkit also features the Hungarian Opening: Wiedenhagen-Beta Gambit, the Australian Defense, the memorably named Colle System: Rhamphorhynchus Variation (yes, a pterosaur lives in his opening book), and the occasional pawn sacrifice of the Diemer-Duhm Gambit when the mood strikes.

With Black, the answer is the Sicilian Defense, over 650 bullet games of it, Dragon Variation included. He punishes offbeat aggression, beating the Amar Gambit (allegedly short for "Absolutely Mad And Ridiculous") about two games in three, though the Alapin Variation and the Amazon Attack: Siberian Attack remain itchy spots. In blitz, his signature weapon is the London System Poisoned Pawn Variation, deployed in 819 games:

The b2 pawn is poison, and he has nibbled at it hundreds of times, mostly surviving the experience.

Rogues' Gallery

No biography is complete without enemies. bhimasen is the certified nemesis: 21 meetings and a grim 6-14 record, the kind of rival who earns his own paragraph. janjan26 supplies a perfectly balanced 20-game feud at 9-11, while joefd occupies the opposite chair as favorite victim at 12-4. radom rounds out the regulars at 11-8. Fourteen-game winning streaks have happened; ten-game losing streaks have also happened. That is bullet.

The Midnight Grind

The numbers read like a man who should not be trusted before noon. Peak performance hour: 22:00, where the win rate jumps to 66.7%. Secondary peak: 4:00 in the morning. Best weekday: Thursday. Tilt factor: a glacial 10 out of 100. Early resignations: a barely measurable 1.2%, because he does not believe in surrender. When worse, he fights, with an 80.7% comeback rate and only about 2% of losses coming one-sided. Games are marathons for the format, averaging roughly 70 moves with endgame play in about three quarters of them, and the queen is the weapon of choice with more than 10,600 checks delivered. The honest footnote: over 2,700 losses by timeout. The clock giveth and the clock taketh away.

Trophy Cabinet

  • 1512 (2026-06-12) in bullet, reached June 2026 after the great comeback
  • 1709 (2021-06-17) in blitz, set back in June 2021
  • Undefeated rapid record of 1-0, technically unbeaten in the format for life
  • Daily chess high of 1601 in August 2025
  • Longest winning streak: 14 games
  • 10,700+ rated games and counting, most of them after dark

The verdict: a patient attacker with a pet pterosaur, a poisoned b2 pawn, and a keyboard that never sleeps. If you face him at 10 p.m., pack an appetite for the endgame.
