Monseigneur Le Comte (Prosecco): Online Chess Biography

A Sparkling Introduction

Few players arrive at the online chess board with both a French title and an Italian sparkling wine for a username, but Monseigneur Le Comte, known in the lobby as Prosecco, has never believed in doing things by half measures. Since first appearing in 2012, the Count has amassed more than 6,700 bullet wins, a cellar full of eccentric openings, and a blitz peak of 2402 (2026-03-13). Champagne gets the coronations. Prosecco gets the results.

The Bullet Baroque, 2012 to 2016

The Count's early reign was a bullet chess frenzy. He won 6,770 one-minute games and broke 4,565 clocks, many of them literally, with 3,482 victories by timeout. His signature weapon was the Colle, Rhamphorhynchus Variation, a line named after a pterosaur, which is fitting because his opponents tend to go extinct around move 30. He played it 1,093 times. Alongside it came 745 games of the Benoni Defense: Benoni Gambit Accepted and 713 rounds of the Amar Gambit, because nothing says aristocracy like 1.Nh3 on purpose.

His favorite checking piece is the Queen, deployed 11,360 times. Naturally. A count checks with a crown.

The Long Cellar Rest and the 2025 Return

After 2016 the cellar door closed. Prosecco vanished from the boards for nearly nine years, a proper vintage resting in the dark. He returned in June 2025, shook the corks loose, and by March 2026 had uncorked his finest blitz form ever, including a furious 170-game month with 99 wins. His longest winning streak stands at 24 games. He is also undefeated in rapid chess at 2-0, a sample size he considers entirely sufficient for a gentleman.

The Count's Opening Cellar

  • As Black in blitz, the crown jewel is the Sicilian Defense: Taimanov Variation, Bastrikov Variation, scoring over 72%.
  • The Alapin Variation and the Caro-Kann round out the invitation list.
  • As White, he long preferred 1.Nf3 and the English Opening, including a perfect 6-for-6 blitz record with the Agincourt Defense. These days he opens with 1.e4 and lets the pieces bubble.

Duels with the Old Court

Every noble needs rivals, and the Count has a full court. His most frequent sparring partner is advancedchess, against whom he has played 93 games and won 51. He holds a winning record over thirak across 86 meetings. Then there is togro, the sworn nemesis who leads 43 to 36, because every count deserves at least one vampire.

Style: How the Count Plays Blitz

  • The endgame appears in 80% of his games. He grinds, then he dines.
  • His comeback rate is 78.6%. Down a piece? The revolution gets postponed.
  • He resigns only 13% of the time, and only under written protest.
  • His tilt factor is a serene 10 out of 100. Chilled, never shaken.
  • He is best before breakfast, with a perfect record at 08:00. At exactly noon his win rate is 0%. Do not book the Count for a lunchtime match. He does not do lunch.
  • He has delivered 2,095 checkmates and accepted only 36 stalemates. Generosity has limits.

Verdict

With just 17 draws in 385 blitz games, Monseigneur Le Comte is extra dry and rarely drawn. He is proof that nobility, like Prosecco, is best served cold, with a little pressure behind it, and ideally before your opponent figures out what year it is.
