Hi rbf0602 – personalised feedback from your coach

What you’re already doing well

  • Tactical alertness – you spot basic forks and mating nets quickly (e.g. 6…Nxc2+ in your win vs nischalbashyal).
  • Willingness to attack – early queen raids often score at your current level.
  • Clock control – you seldom lose on time and usually finish with a reserve.

Recurring issues & how to fix them

  1. Early-queen addiction
Half of your recent White games began with 2.Qh5/4.Qf3. Stronger opponents simply chase the queen while developing pieces.
    • Adopt a principled line such as the Italian (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4) or Scotch (3.d4).
    • Rule of thumb: develop two minor pieces and castle before a second queen move.
  2. Moving the same piece repeatedly
Against ChillingDoc your knight went Na5–c4–e3–b5–c6 while the rest of your army slept.
Fix: After every move ask “Does this finish development or fight for the centre?” If not, reconsider.
  3. King safety
Several losses feature a king wandering to d7/d8 instead of castling. Make castling by move 10 a default plan unless you have a concrete reason not to.
  4. Missing opponent threats
In the loss vs ABHI_7781 a long-diagonal tactic (35.Nxa7+) and pawn promotions were overlooked. Before each move run a 10-second “blunder-check” for all checks, captures and threats the opponent will get.
  5. Endgame technique
Some drawn pawn endings drifted into losses. Spend time on king-and-pawn basics and the main rook endings (Lucena, Philidor).

Two-week action plan

  • Play 20 rapid games where the queen stays home until move 6. Review each game afterwards.
  • Solve 30 tactical puzzles a day, focusing on forks, pins and back-rank mates.
  • Pick one opening per colour (e.g. Italian with White, Scandinavian with Black) and memorise the first 10 moves.
  • Complete a pawn-endgame lesson and practise K+P vs K positions against the computer.

Model opening fragment to imitate

Notice how all minor pieces are out and White is ready to castle before the queen appears.

Motivation corner

Your current personal best: 809 (2023-09-21). Let’s push for 700 by month’s end – analyse every loss, keep the queen in reserve, and enjoy the climb!

Good luck, and see you at the board!
