rumo42: The Bullet Marathoner
Meet rumo42
rumo42 is a bullet chess phenomenon. In December 2021, the account debuted with a 524 bullet rating and a lot of ambition. By April 2025, rumo42 had reached a bullet peak of 2200 (2025-04-03), one of the steepest climbs you will see in online chess. The blitz journey was just as wild, going from 569 in January 2022 all the way to 2197 (2025-05-01). Even rapid got in on the action, peaking at 2053 (2024-09-02).
All that climbing happened in more than 12,000 rated games, largely played at bullet speed. The charts below show the full arc, warts and all.
Repertoire of a 1.d4 Devotee
Give rumo42 the white pieces and the move is almost always 1.d4. The preferred setups are built on the Queen's Gambit Declined, the Slav Defense, and the King's Indian Defense, with a side order of London System. As Black, the Scandinavian Defense is the go-to, played more than 1,100 times in bullet and blitz with a winning record in both.
There is also a rebellious streak. Hundreds of games feature the Australian Defense, and the Amar Gambit appears whenever rumo42 wants chaos. A typical Scandinavian moment looks like this:
