RyuujinCT Chess Biography: The Dragon God of Rapid and Blitz Chess
The Name Is a Warning Label
Ryuujin is the dragon god of Japanese folklore, and RyuujinCT has built a chess career that honors the brand. When the black pieces come out, the story is always the same: c5, g6, Bg7, and a fully grown Sicilian Dragon breathing smoke across the board. Opponents have tried the Yugoslav Attack, the sharpest dragon-slaying weapon ever mass-produced, in 1,772 blitz games against this account, and they still lost more than they won. The dragon slayers keep becoming lunch.
Rapid chess is the preferred habitat, where the strength-adjusted win rate climbs above 61%, but the bulk of life has been spent in the blitz trenches. That is not a hobby. That is a metabolism.
The Long Grind: 29,000 Games and Counting
The blitz ledger opens in November 2021 at 508. Within one month and 897 games, it closed at 2428, a climb that historians will study and accountants will not believe. From there, four years of relentless grinding pushed the peak to 2640 (2025-05-15) in May 2025, with 2556 (2025-02-22) and 2414 (2025-06-16) also cracking the 2400s. The all-time blitz record: 14,309 wins, 13,411 losses, and 1,480 draws, the statistical definition of a player who does not get tired.
Streaks reveal the temperament: a 39-game winning rampage on one end, a 33-game landslide on the other, and a current seven-game skid that, by these standards, barely qualifies as a rough afternoon.
The Repertoire: 1.d4 With Feeling
As White, 1.d4 is opened like a front door: over 4,100 times in 2024 alone, against 38 lonely games of 1.e4. The workhorse is the Nimzo-Indian Defense, 1,801 blitz games with a 54% score and a monstrous 81.82% win rate in Rapid. The King's Indian Defense, Larsen Variation adds another 1,600+ appearances, and the Queen's Gambit Declined, Exchange setup with 5.Bg5 cruises at 56%.
The mad scientist also makes appearances. The mysterious Australian Defense has been rolled out 467 times in blitz with a 55% win rate and sits a perfect 6-for-6 in Rapid, which is 467 more times than anyone expected. In 2021 there is exactly one game beginning 1.Na3. It is never explained. It does not need to be.
The bullet fast lane runs on pickpocketing: the Modern at nearly 57%, plus a lopsided 66.67% score handling the offbeat Queen's Gambit line with 2...Bf5 3.cxd5. Not every dragon breathes fire. Some just take your wallet.
For the record, the kryptonite file is honest: the Semi-Slav, Accelerated Meran Variation (2-4 in Rapid) and the East Indian Defense (2-6 in Rapid) are the two places the flame sputters.
Want to face the dragon anyway? Here is the Yugoslav Attack, the standard anti-dragon toolkit, shown from the dragon's side of the board:
Rivals, Nemeses, and Frequent Victims
A career this long needs a supporting cast, and the repeat-opponent list reads like a soap opera.
- The nemesis: Masterian7, across 212 games, leads the head-to-head 110 to 85. Every dragon needs one knight it cannot quite barbecue.
- The sparring partner: jmentrainemnt, 199 games, sits on the wrong side of a 116-63-20 score. At some point this stops being a rivalry and becomes a subscription.
- The coin flip: GygesI, 67 games, dead even at 31-34-2. Pure chaos, twice a week.
- The highlight reel: atefvinc is 77-6-1 over 84 games, while zilong67 (43-6) and 0clark-inactive (39-5) round out the victims list.
Playing Style: Endgame Marathons and Comebacks
This is not a gambiteer. The endgame arrives in 79.4% of games, wins average a lung-busting 82 moves, and the comeback rate sits at 87.35%. Drop a piece against RyuujinCT and the game is not over: nearly half of those games still end in a win.
- One-sided losses: 2.14%. Losing without a fight is simply not on the menu.
- Early resignations: 1.27%. Opponents have been put out of their misery by resignation 7,461 times, and by the clock another 5,462 times.
- Checkmate lands in 8.6% of games, usually delivered by the queen (28,911 career checks). The king has personally strolled up the board to check 187 times, which says everything about the confidence level.
- First capture typically comes around move 8. The fuse burns long, then the board explodes.
Quirks, Habits, and the Daily Chess Mystery
- Prime time is 19:00, a 51.31% win rate. The 3 AM slot runs 36.36%, proving the dragon turns back into a human at night like everyone else.
- Tuesday is the best day of the week (51.00%), Friday the worst (46.35%). Schedule accordingly.
- Tilt factor: 33 out of 100. The flame flickers but rarely goes out.
- Casual games run about 12 points stronger than rated ones. Somewhere, unrated opponents are filing complaints.
- The daily chess pool: a peak of 1,292 with a 26-9 record, from the same human whose blitz peak touches 2600. No explanation. Just vibes.
- The Barnes Defense (1...f6) has been punished three times out of three, which is three more wins against 1...f6 than strictly necessary.
- 138 career stalemates, suggesting endgame technique and mercy have never shared a room.
Put it together and the portrait is clear: a d4 fundamentalist with a Dragon heart, a 7 PM prime time, a 39-game win streak in the trophy case, and an unshakable belief that any position, down a piece, past move 80, is still winnable. The dragon god does not rush the endgame. The dragon god lives there.
