Meet scientificmouse

Some chess players choose usernames to intimidate. scientificmouse chose one that sounds like a research project and then proceeded to electrify online chess. Under this deceptively modest name is a FIDE Master who began as a mid-level internet player in 2020 and eventually climbed to 2931 (2026-06-23) in Blitz, 2789 (2024-10-17) in Bullet, and 2411 (2025-03-09) in Rapid.

scientificmouse prefers Bullet, where the clock is always hungry and the moves are fast enough to make a chess engine blush. Yet the Blitz numbers are the real headline. After spending a few years floating near the 1400s and 1500s, the rating line suddenly went vertical in late 2023. One month in 2024 alone contains over 2,000 Bullet games, which is less a training schedule and more a marathon with a mouse-sized keyboard.

An Opening Laboratory

scientificmouse builds most games around 1.d4. As White, the Queen's Gambit Declined and the Slav Defense are favorite experimental setups. The Slav Defense has been especially rewarding, producing a 59% win rate in Blitz games with White. As Black, scientificmouse has absorbed sharp tries in the Italian Game, navigated both Caro-Kann Defense structures and offbeat gambits, and kept the opening laboratory open for surprises.

The variety is impressive. Australian Defense, Amar Gambit, Grunfeld counterplay, and plenty of unusual opponent choices all appear in the dataset. scientificmouse is not a one-opening mouse. It is a chess omnivore with an especially large appetite for d4 positions.

Rivalries, Streaks, and Recovery

No player is an island on a chess server. scientificmouse's most-played rival is ali shahibzadegan, a 66-game series so evenly contested that it feels like one endless match. Other regular sparring partners include Yasser Hadj Khoulti, HaDonna, and LadyCockroach, each of whom has helped stress-test the famous mouse experiment.

The psychological side is equally lively. scientificmouse has recorded an 18-game winning streak, a 15-game losing streak, and a comeback rate of 86%. That means the mouse can lose the plot for a while, but the plot usually wanders back. It also explains why so many games against scientificmouse go deep into the endgame, turning every lost position into another research question.

The Journey in One Chart
