2. What you already do well

  • Fighting spirit & creativity. You are comfortable in unusual positions after 1.a3/1.a4 and often unsettle opponents rated at the same level (e.g. the wins against reygan_2015 and autphobia).
  • Spot-on basic tactics. When opponents blunder, you rarely miss it. The clean 2…Nxh5! in the Alekhine’s Defence game punished Qh5?! instantly:
  • Time management. You play most moves with 5–10 seconds still on the clock, avoiding time-pressure blunders.

3. Main improvement themes

  1. Early pawn moves ≠ development.
In several losses (e.g. vs iawera and kipper_12) pieces stayed on the back rank while flank pawns rushed forward.
    • Try starting games with two central pawns (e4/d4 or e5/d5) and develop minor pieces before launching pawn storms.
    • Golden rule: after move 10 you want at least three pieces plus the king castled.
  2. King safety first.
Both sides of the board saw exposed kings. The line 1…g6 2…f6 3…g5 left dark-square holes and ended in mate. Follow these checkpoints:
    • No more than one pawn move in front of your king before you castle.
    • Avoid weakening squares next to the king (g6 + f6 invites Qh5+).
  3. Opening fundamentals.
Swapping openings every game makes learning patterns hard. Pick one mainline for each colour and stick to it for 20–30 games:
    • White: consider the London System (d4, Nf3, Bf4, e3, c3) – solid, easy to learn.
    • Black vs 1.e4: the Caro-Kann (1…c6 2…d5) keeps your king safe and teaches pawn structure play.
    • Black vs 1.d4/other: Queen’s Gambit Declined set-up (d5, e6, Nf6, Be7, O-O).
  4. Convert winning positions.
Some opponents resigned early, but a few games you lost by abandon when ahead. Stay focused until the result is recorded (internet drops or distractions cost rating points).

4. Tactical training plan

• 10 puzzles/day focusing on double attacks and back-rank mates.
• After each rapid game, spend 5 minutes with an engine to find one missed tactic – no more – and add it to a personal flashcard deck.
• Weekly mini-review: look at your last 5 games and answer “Did I castle before move 10?” If not, why?

5. Next-step checklist

  • Play 10 rapid games using the recommended openings only.
  • Annotate at least one win and one loss each week; focus on move-10 position and king safety.
  • Post a question about an unclear position in the forums – explaining ideas out loud accelerates learning.

Enjoy the journey, keep the creativity, and layer solid fundamentals on top – that mix will push you well past 1800!
