Seth (SThompson24): Bullet Chess Ironman and Certified Amar Gambit Menace

Seth, known on the leaderboard as SThompson24, is an online bullet chess specialist who has played roughly seventeen thousand games without once learning what fear is. Since his debut in April 2017, he has powered his way from 1800 into the 2800s, peaking at a staggering 2853 in July 2024, and he did it while opening games with moves your local chess club would politely ask you to stop playing.

2853 (2024-07-17)

The Most Balanced Record in Online Chess History

Buckle up for the greatest stat Seth owns: in bullet chess his record reads 5,717 wins, 5,707 losses, and 530 draws. That is exactly ten games above .500 across nearly 12,000 games. Seth is not a winning machine or a losing machine. He is a coin with a face on both sides.

Do not mistake balance for weakness. He entered the arena rated 1800 in April 2017, cracked 2500 within six months, and kept grinding. In December 2019 alone he played 269 bullet games and leapt more than 150 points. In June 2024 he played 851 games in a single month, which works out to about 28 bullet games per day, every day, rain or shine, presumably including lunch.

Opening Repertoire: World-Class Play, Chaotic Openings

Here is where Seth becomes special. His most-played bullet opening by a mile is the Amar Gambit, the legendary 1. Nh3, a move that develops the knight to the rim and dares the opponent to take him seriously. He has played it 668 times in bullet with a coin-flip win rate, and over 50% when he holds the white pieces. Engines file restraining orders against this opening. Seth files it under "fine".

And because one crime is not enough, Seth also defends with the Barnes Defense (1. e4 f3), statistically the worst legal reply to 1. e4. In his hands it is his single most successful bullet defense, winning 53.47% of 288 games. The lesson is either "anything can work in bullet" or "bullet is not really chess". Both are probably true.

Between the crimes, real chess occasionally breaks out. Repertoire highlights:

  • Sicilian Defense: his daily-chess weapon of choice, where he is a perfect 10-0 in the Sicilian and 8-0 in the Closed variation, part of an overall daily record of 158-13.
  • Najdorf Variation: a 54.43% win rate from the black side in bullet, proving Seth remembers theory exists.
  • Caro-Kann Defense and the Scandinavian Defense: the respectable side dishes served between helpings of 1. Nh3.

Rivals, Victims, and One Predictive Username

Seth does not just play chess; he maintains relationships. His longest-running one is with munchingpieces, who has faced him 388 times and won exactly 9 of those games. That is not a rivalry, that is a subscription service. mocl125 (154-16) and blackferne (78-3) tell similar tales.

Then there is Tiago Pereira Rodrigues, the great equalizer: 250 meetings, with Seth at 116 wins, 119 losses, and 15 draws. Finally, we salute Safal Bora, holder of the most prophetic username in the database, because Seth has lost 63 of their 84 encounters. They do not want to lose. Seth makes sure of it.

Playing Style: Grind, Flag, Queen Check, Repeat

Seth's wins are marathons. The average one lasts nearly 79 moves, which in bullet terms is basically a Tour de France stage, and more than 81% of his games reach a real endgame. When a position goes bad he will often resign early rather than suffer, but when he stays, he stays: his comeback rate sits at a ludicrous 84%, and he keeps winning after losing material.

  • Flag collector: over 2,500 bullet wins by timeout. The clock is his second queen.
  • Queen enthusiast: 17,398 career queen checks. If Seth checked you with a rook, it was a clerical error.
  • Patient greed: his first capture lands around move 7 on average, even in one-minute games.
  • Streaks of legend: a 39-game winning streak and a 73-game losing streak live on the same profile, sometimes within the same fortnight.
  • Tilt rating: 73 out of 100. In human terms, he has absolutely thrown a mouse at some point.

When to Challenge SThompson24 (A Public Service Announcement)

Want a fair fight? Study the schedule. Seth's win rate at 11:00 is a monstrous 63.6%, while at 10:00 it collapses to 37.5%, an entire hour in which he apparently forgets knights can move backwards. Late night is also dangerous at nearly 58%, and Sunday is his best day of the week. He is also a casual-game shark: his casual results run almost 47 percentage points above his rated ones, so if Seth ever acts casual around you, accept the draw offer and go home.

The Verdict

Seventeen thousand games. A bullet peak of 2853. A win-loss ledger balanced to the decimal. A repertoire that opens with the knight to the rim and defends with f3, plus a 2701 blitz peak for the skeptics. Seth is living proof that bullet chess rewards heart, flag awareness, and a complete disregard for opening theory. Somewhere a theoretician is weeping, and somewhere else, munchingpieces is queuing up for matchup number 389.
