A storm on the clock

Purushottam Silwal, better known online as StormStrategist, is a FIDE Candidate Master with a serious love for fast chess. And not just any fast chess. The data says his preferred time control is Bullet, and his playing style follows the same philosophy: strike quickly, calculate with the opening noise, and never sit still.

It started with a modest Bullet rating in mid-2026 and quickly became one of the busiest clocks on the server. When he is not sending pieces flying in one minute games, he is working through Sicilian Defense transpositions and the Najdorf Variation like a storm warning in preparation.

Lifeblood: the Sicilian and a good comeback

The opening table tells the real story. In Blitz, Purushottam has Warriors. He has fought the Najdorf Variation in 64 games and scored a solid 62.5% win rate, with an even more impressive 76.9% when he gets to play it with the white pieces. The Caro-Kann Defense has also been a trusty old friend, especially in Bullet, where he converts 62.5% of those positions and runs up an 81.8% win rate when he gets his favourite ideas.

Oversized comebacks are another trademark. According to the tactical awareness metrics, his comeback rate is 87.4%, and he still wins 46.7% of the time after dropping a piece. That means an opponent who wins material against him has a 1.28% chance of everything being "one-sided" and an 98.72% chance of disordered fighting.

Rivalries and quirky openings

Every storm needs a dance partner, and his is rishanthapa. Their 44 game series is a genuine tournament in itself: Purush holds a 31-13 lead against rishanthapa, but the 13 losses prove the opponent is not going to just hand over the clocks.

The opening database also contains some truly original nests. There is the Amazon Attack: Siberian Attack, the Barnes Defense, and the Cobra Variation. Purush enjoys the Amazon Attack in those positions, landing 72.7% wins overall. He even has a reported 0% record against the London Poisoned Pawn, but that only makes him human.

Raw numbers: streaks, patience, and the 18:00 hour

  • Longest winning streak: 13 games. Longest losing streak: 8 games. He makes sure the weather stays dramatic.
  • White win rate: 52.6%. Black win rate: 43.2%. Working hard on both sides of the board.
  • Endgame encounters: 80.5% of his games reach the endgame, so don't expect many flags mode resumptions.
  • His best performance hour is 18:00, which is dinner, unless you intended the clock.
  • Early resignation rate is only 1.07%: he almost never leaves before checkmate, timeout, or an actual storm.

His rated vs casual win difference is a heavy 32.36 points lower, meaning he rises in the official database and warms up to all friendly fire.

A final portrait of fast kings

Purushottam Silwal is the rare Candidate Master who approaches Bullet like a scientific expedition into a hurricane. The sharp Najdorf Variation, the stubborn Caro-Kann Defense, the comeback data, the endless challenge of rishanthapa, and the fact that 2717 (2026-08-04) was 2717 while 2952 (2026-03-10) crackled at 2952, all create the profile of a player who is happiest when the clock is low and the board is loud.

He wins with all pieces in 78 moves, loses in 78 moves, and, on his best days, looks every second of it. The preferred time control remains Bullet and the opponent list is already growing faster than the time increase.
