Coach Chesswick
Hi Telseti – here’s your personalised training report
Quick stats
Your current peak rapid rating is 789 (2025-03-08). Keep pushing!
Activity snapshots:
What you’re already doing well
- Tactical alertness: you often spot quick material wins such as 7.Nxf6+ gxf6 and 10.Qxc5! against tarekm98.
- Bravery: you are not afraid to enter sharp positions and grab material; this will pay off once your calculation improves.
- Consistent opening choice: by playing the same Queen-pawn setup (d4–e3–c4–Qb3) you gain practical experience quickly.
Main improvement themes
-
Develop pieces before the queen.
In a number of your recent losses the queen came out early, was chased and you fell behind in development.
Example position (game vs NatKafka12):
After 11.Qxa5? your queen wins a pawn but allows …Bb4+ or …Qb4+ and your king is stuck in the centre. Follow the classic opening rules instead:- Control the centre with pawns
- Develop knights and bishops
- Castle
- Then look for queen adventures
-
King safety.
Several games were lost with the king still in the middle (e.g. vs Freeza_sama and xhenry1925). Make castling a priority by move 10 unless you have a concrete reason not to. -
Blunder-check routine.
Before every move ask yourself:
• What are my opponent’s checks, captures, threats?
• If I play my intended move, can they reply with a forcing tactic?
Spending even 10 seconds on this scan will save dozens of points per game. -
Time management.
You usually play 15 | 10 games – good choice. Keep at least 3 minutes for the endgame by avoiding ultra-fast opening moves.
Opening toolbox (optional)
Pick one solid line with clear plans and play it for the next 50 games:
- As White: The London System (1.d4 2.Nf3 3.Bf4) – no early queen moves, quick castling, easy development.
- As Black vs 1.e4: Stick with your French Defense, but aim for the simple Exchange/Advance structures first.
- As Black vs 1.d4: Try the Queen's Gambit Declined – develop pieces and challenge the centre without early pawn grabs.
Weekly training plan
| Day | Focus | Target |
|---|---|---|
| Mon & Wed | Tactics | 30 rated puzzles or Puzzle Rush attempts |
| Tue & Thu | Opening review | Replay 2 model games in your chosen opening |
| Fri | Endgame basics | Study 3 king-pawn endings |
| Weekend | Play | 4 rapid games, annotate the most interesting one |
Mindset reminder
Improvement at this stage is less about memorising moves and more about building good habits. If you finish each game knowing why you won or lost, rating gains will follow naturally.
Next check-in
After 30 games with the new opening repertoire, send me three annotated games and we’ll push to break the 600 barrier together.
Good luck and have fun over the board!
