There are players who study openings, and there are players who simply show up, push 1.e4, and dare the world to do something about it. maroc moderne, known as TheMOROCCANshadow on the board, belongs firmly in the second camp. Since 2016, this desert grinder has piled up thousands of games, slammed the Scotch Game down as White, and handled the Sicilian Defense as Black with the patience of a camel crossing the Sahara. His preferred habitat is Rapid, where he reached a career high of 2451 (2026-05-15).
The early desert days
It did not start glamorously. In December 2016, maroc moderne was a 1042 Blitz player with four games to his name. The following months were a lesson in stubbornness: 36 Blitz games in February 2017, 62 in April, 98 in August, and then a ridiculous 268 in September alone. The rating climbed slowly, the way water rises in an oasis: from 872 at the end of 2016 to 1428 by the close of 2017.
Breaking the wall
The real leap came in 2018. A 320-game January was followed by a 363-game February, and the rating finally noticed: he crossed 1700 in June and ended the year at 1786. He kept grinding, and by January 2020 he touched 1901 in Blitz. Then came his true love: Rapid. In April 2021, after a quiet 1463 cameo the year before, TheMOROCCANshadow blasted from 1620 to 2093 in a single month.
The long climb
From there the shadow kept lengthening. He cleared 2000 Blitz in December 2023, pushed Rapid to 2245 that same month, and spent 2025 trading blows around the 2300 level. In May 2026 he hit his all-time Rapid peak of 2451 (2026-05-15). Along the way he once won 47 games in a row, which sounds impressive until you remember his longest losing streak was 13. Such is the shadow's life: always moving, always bouncing back.
Style: e4 or nothing
As White, maroc moderne is the most predictable player on the internet: he plays 1.e4 with religious devotion. His relationship with the Scotch Game is deep, with hundreds of Rapid games, and his black repertoire leans heavily on the Sicilian Defense, including the Najdorf, the Closed, and several lines he has clearly lost to enough times to become emotionally attached to. The Caro-Kann Defense Exchange Variation also haunts him: 106 Rapid games at a painful 34.91% win rate, which he keeps playing anyway.
Rivalries and nemeses
Every grinder needs a dance partner, and maroc moderne found his in optimiste. The two have met 69 times, with optimiste narrowly ahead 36 wins to 32, plus a single draw. The shadow also traded blows with iamsifou 28 times, winning 11 to iamsifou's 16. These are the rivalries that fuel a ten-year climb: no trophies, no titles, just an endless queue of rematches.
Numbers and quirks
- Comeback rate of 82.57%, and he still wins 43.22% of games after losing a piece.
- His queen does the heavy lifting: 8,415 checks across 6,996 analyzed games.
- Best hour to face him? 08:00. Worst hour? Also likely 08:00, if you happen to be his opponent.
- Peak Blitz rating: 2288 (2025-11-13). He has been there and back, but always returns.
Today TheMOROCCANshadow hovers near his peak, still pressing the clock, still playing 1.e4, still hunting for that next 47-game streak. He is not the flashiest player, but he is the most reliable: a shadow you can set your watch to.
