Jesús La Cruz: The Jungle Tyrant of Online Chess
Meet Jesús La Cruz, known across the online chess arena as Yharim95_Chess, a handle borrowed from Yharim, the Jungle Tyrant of Terraria's Calamity mod. The name is fitting. Since arriving in March 2023, Jesús has treated the leaderboard like territory to be conquered, stacking up more than 9,600 rated games and transforming from a sub-1000 newcomer into a 2400-level blitz and bullet menace.
The "95" remains officially unexplained, though 1995 is a reasonable guess. What is not in doubt is the work rate: long sessions, deep opening preparation, and a suspicious fondness for playing at hours when sane players are asleep. He also carries a name that practically promises resurrections, and he delivers, bouncing back from every losing streak like it is part of the plan.
The Rise of the Tyrant
Jesús began as an e4 player, cutting his teeth on the Vienna Game and scoring a healthy 59% with it in 2023. Then came the conversion. In 2024 he switched to d4, and by 2026 the numbers were absurd: 1.d4 was played 2,545 times while every other first move combined barely cracked 30. The e4 era did not end with a bang. It ended with a quiet Bf4.
The climb has been steep and occasionally turbulent, featuring a 20-game winning streak on one end and an 11-game slide on the other. By late 2026 he had pushed his blitz peak to 2421 (2026-10-04) and his bullet peak to 2467 (2026-10-05), planting the tyrant's flag firmly in double-2400 territory.
The Amazon Arsenal
His signature weapon is the Amazon Attack, a bishop-first system where White plays 1.d4, 2.Bf4 and dares opponents to complain about it. He has logged over 1,700 games in its two flavors, with the Siberian Attack version winning more than 54% of bullet games and nearly 59% of blitz games. A taste of the setup:
The repertoire also includes a poisoned take on the London System (56% in blitz) and the gambit-hungry Australian Defense. Not everything is glamorous: the Alekhine Defense as Black has been a self-inflicted 40% headache. Meanwhile, opponents who try the Scandinavian against him lose 87.5% of the time in rapid. Do not bring a sloth to a jungle fight.
The Nemesis Files
Every tyrant keeps a ledger, and Jesús's has some interesting entries:
- szybki_leniwiec, whose username is Polish for "fast sloth," has beaten Jesús 11 times in 13 meetings, with the tyrant's lone win a treasured artifact. The sloth is, tragically, fast.
- khg_tsuki1201 is the most frequent sparring partner at 14 games and currently edges the series 8 wins to 5. The rivalry remains officially unresolved.
- eliuskacenteno has found himself on the wrong end of a 10-1 series, making him the favorite prey in the entire jungle.
Style, Habits, and 2 AM Superpowers
- Endgame grinder: roughly 77% of his games reach an endgame. He wins in about 66 moves on average and loses in about 78, so defeat is a long goodbye and victory is a clean job.
- Never quits: an early resignation rate of just 1.28%. Opponents resign to him about twice as often as the reverse.
- Comeback artist: a 76.5% comeback rate. Down material is not a crisis, it is a plot twist.
- Cool head: a tilt factor of just 11. The tyrant does not rage, he recalculates.
- Queen on payroll: across nearly 10,000 analyzed games, his most common checking piece is the queen, with almost 10,000 queen checks delivered. His queen writes more checks than an accounting department.
- Vampire hours: his best win rate comes at 2 AM (65.6%), then collapses to 36.4% at 3 AM. The witching hour is real, and it lasts exactly one hour.
- Sunday's child: Sundays are his best day of the week, Thursdays his worst. Schedule your ambushes accordingly.
With well over 6,700 bullet games and nearly 1,200 blitz wins, Jesús La Cruz has built one of the more relentless grinds in online chess. Blitz is his preferred arena, the Amazon his banner, and the empire keeps expanding one 1.d4 at a time. Long live the Jungle Tyrant.
