Coach Chesswick
Hi Ala80! ✨ Your recent bullet games show plenty of fighting spirit. Below is a quick, constructive review to help you climb to the next level.
1. What you are already doing well
- Bold tactical vision. You are never shy about grabbing material or going for checkmate. The following miniature illustrates your killer instinct:
- Piece activity. In many wins you place bishops and rooks on aggressive files and ranks, often winning on tempo and time.
- Confidence in open positions. When the center clears you immediately create threats ― great for bullet.
2. Biggest improvement areas
- Opening fundamentals
• Frequent early-queen moves (2.Qf3, 2.Qh5, 2…Qe7) violate classical principles and let opponents chase your queen while they develop.
• Develop two minor pieces, castle, then think about queen sorties.
• Suggested starting repertoire:
• As White: Italian (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4) or Scotch (3.d4).
• As Black: Against 1.e4 choose either the Scandinavian (1…d5) or the reliable 1…e5 with knights before queen.
Study 10-move “skeletons” so you can play them almost automatically in bullet. - King safety
Several losses feature your king stuck in the center (e.g. vs. fuhrmglass). Make castling a priority by move 8 in most games. - Tactical accuracy
You win many games on the clock, but pieces are often left hanging. Daily tactical drills (5–10 minutes) will sharpen your eye for forks, pins and skewers. Aim for 85 %+ success on “Mate in 1–2” puzzles before each playing session. - Time management
Five of the six most recent losses were on time while the position was playable. Ideas:
• Play a few 3|0 games to practice quick decision-making without the extreme 1-minute pressure.
• Use premoves only for forced recaptures.
• When you are clearly winning, simplify and trade pieces so moves become easier to premove.
3. Suggested weekly plan (≈30 min/day)
- 10 min – Tactics trainer (focus on motifs you miss most: forks, double-attacks).
- 10 min – Play one rapid game (10|0 or 15|10) and annotate it briefly.
- 10 min – Rehearse your first 10 moves with an opening trainer or by replaying master games.
4. Track your progress
Peak so far: 986 (2019-05-06). Let’s aim to add +100 elo in the next month!
5. Next steps
- Pick one main opening as White and Black; stick to them for 50 games.
- After each session, save one interesting game and review it slowly; ask “Which move was my first clear mistake?”
- Celebrate small wins: a safe king, no pieces blundered, finishing with 20 s on the clock, etc.
Keep the energy and attacking mindset, Ala80 ― combine it with solid fundamentals and you’ll see rapid gains. Good luck and have fun on your chess journey!
