Aqueen055: Роман, the Blitz Chess Marathon Man
Meet Роман, known to the online chess world as Aqueen055, a player who treats the 24-hour day as a mild suggestion. In roughly 18 months of activity he stacked up nearly 17,000 blitz chess games, including a stretch of more than 1,300 in a single month. That is not a hobby. That is a cardio program for a computer mouse.
An Opening Repertoire Written at 3 AM
The first joke writes itself: a player named Aqueen055 who almost never brings his queen out early. Roman's signature first move is 1.Nf3, played over 6,500 times, usually drifting into the delightfully obscure Hungarian Opening: Wiedenhagen-Beta Gambit, which he has deployed more than 1,400 times. That is roughly 1,395 more times than everyone else on the planet combined.
As Black, he stays loyal to the Modern Defense (nearly 2,000 games), the charmingly remote Australian Defense, and the Przepiorka Variation of the Indian Defense. Mainstream opening theory has been notified. It has declined to comment.
Style: Grind First, Ask Questions Never
Roman does not do quick knockouts. His games average around 85 moves, in blitz, which is the chess equivalent of running a marathon in sprinting shoes. The numbers behind the grind:
- Endgame frequency: nearly 90% of his games reach an endgame, because apparently the middlegame is just a warm-up act.
- Comeback rate: 88%. Down a piece? That is a suggestion, not a verdict.
- Early resignation rate: just 20%. Opponents are advised to pack a lunch.
- Most trusted checking piece: the rook, out-delivering even the queen.
The Rematch Button's Most Loyal Customer
Roman does not simply play opponents. He adopts them. Chief among them is Vjacheslav Weetik, who has faced him 397 times, with Roman trailing the head-to-head but clearly committed to the long game. Alexey Jarovinsky has logged 321 encounters, gullinburste 241, and honestgirl 223. At this point these are less like rivals and more like chess roommates.
Creature of the Night
Here is the eerie part: Roman's best hour is 3 AM, where his sample shows a flawless record, and 6 AM is not far behind at 64%. By 8 PM, when ordinary mortals are still awake and dangerous, his win rate craters to 32%. The optimal strategy against him is apparently not an opening novelty. It is making sure he is sleepy. His longest winning streak reached 11 games; his longest losing streak, 14, almost certainly played in broad daylight.
The Journey So Far
From a modest debut in August 2021, Roman rocketed up the blitz ladder and capped it all by hitting his peak of 2926 (2022-12-31) on New Year's Eve 2022, which is a far better way to celebrate than most of us manage. The full rollercoaster is below.
Legacy
Whether he is outlasting victims in 90-move endgame wars, dragging witik into a 398th rematch, or quietly grinding rating points at 3 AM while the rest of the world dreams, Roman has built one of the more memorable profiles in online blitz chess. Long live the Wiedenhagen-Beta Gambit.
