Bui Tuan Kiet, known on the scoreboard as BTuanKiet2009, is an online chess phenomenon whose rise borders on unreasonable. The 2009 tucked into the username hints at a very young competitor, and since May 2023 he has packed more than 11,000 games and over 6,200 wins into roughly three years of play. Rapid is the preferred time control, though the young Kiet is every bit as dangerous when the clock drops to bullet speed.

The Great Climb

The first month tells the whole story. In May 2023, Kiet's bullet rating dipped as low as 516 before rocketing to 1925 within weeks.
