What you already do well

  1. Tactical awareness – in wins versus moligenial and venomino you spotted mating nets quickly.
  2. Active piece play – you rarely leave pieces undeveloped; moves such as …Rd2 and …Rxa2 show good board vision.
  3. Confidence in complicated positions – you are happy to sacrifice material when you sense an attack.

Main habits to fix next

  1. Premature pawn storms – early h- and a-pawn pushes (e.g. h3–h4–h5 by move 9) weaken your own king. Follow opening principles first: develop, castle, then attack.
  2. Early queen moves – Qf3/Qh5 on move 2–3 lets opponents gain tempo. Keep the queen behind the minors until you are castled.
  3. King safety – in your loss to milanmalik you castled long after opening files near your monarch. Aim to castle by move 10 in most games.
  4. Time management – two recent defeats were on time. Once you are under 60 s, simplify or choose solid moves quickly.
  5. End-game technique – a won rook ending versus hsambolic slipped away. Study the basic Lucena and Philidor positions.

Opening menu to stabilise your games

ColourSystemKey ideas
White Italian Game (quiet 4.c3 Nf6 5.d3) Castle early, use Re1 & h3, no queen sorties until pieces are developed.
Black vs 1.e4 – Scandinavian (1…d5) Simple plan: …Nf6, …c6, …Bf5. Teaches central play and rapid development.
vs 1.d4 – Queen’s Gambit Declined set-up 2…e6 → …Nf6 → …Be7. Solid and instructive.

Four-week improvement plan

  1. Daily tactics: 20 puzzles with >80 % accuracy. Focus on forks, pins, discovered attacks, and the Zwischenzug.
  2. End-game fundamentals: 15 min/day on king-and-pawn and rook endings.
  3. Opening practice: play 10 blitz games with each new system; annotate and flag moves where you left book early.
  4. Time-control mix: add two 10 | 0 rapid games each week to practise deeper calculation without clock pressure.

Spotlight game – recent 0-1 victory

Play 20 games using the openings above. Send me three annotated losses; we’ll focus on turning those into future wins.

Good luck, and enjoy the journey!
