Coach Chesswick
Hi Pablo!
You have an aggressive, initiative-oriented style that often overwhelms lower-rated opponents. Below you will find a balanced review of your recent performance, practical advice for the next training cycle, and a few concrete study ideas.
Quick snapshot
- Peak blitz rating: 2537 (2025-01-21)
- Activity trends:
What you are doing well
- Early initiative. In your recent win against franrf723 you expanded with h-pawns and sacrificed on f3/f2 to keep Black’s king under constant fire (g7–Rxf2+–Qg5+). Your willingness to give material for activity is a real strength at fast time controls.
- Piece activity & coordination. Even in positions with material imbalance you manage to bring every piece into the attack quickly. Moves such as 22…Bd4+!! (same game) show good awareness of forcing moves and “keep-checking-until-mate”.
- Time management. Most of your decisions are made with >50 % of the clock still on the board—an asset in bullet/blitz where flagging is common.
Recurring issues & how to address them
-
Over-extension in the opening.
• Loss vs Axthoz (Owens 1…b6) shows the risk: 9.Bxh7+! and your king was mated on move 12.
• Early pawn thrusts (h4–g4 before castling) are effective vs passive defenses, but strong opponents exploit the weakened f- and g-files.
Action plan: Play 20 warm-up games in a classical structure (e.g. 1.d4 d5 2.c4 or 1.e4 e5) where you postpone pawn storms until development is finished. Review each game for the first 15 moves only. -
Defensive technique.
In the lost Najdorf (SebaGM) you allowed 12…Nexg4 followed by a double knight fork because pieces were bunched on the back rank.
Action plan: Solve 30 “Find the only defense” puzzles weekly. Focus on interpositions, back-rank resources, and the zwischenzug motif. -
Critical moment calculation.
Many of your sacrifices are sound, but a few (e.g. 8…Nxd5?? in the win, or 14…Nxd3+ in the loss) could be improved with one extra moment of verification.
Action plan: Use a “10-second blunder check” rule before every irreversible move: look for all ✔ checks, ✦ captures, and ♞ threats by the opponent.
Model example to study
Replay the critical phase of your last victory and ask yourself “What would I play as White?”.
