The Caped Vigilante: Justice, One Move at a Time
By day, they may look like an ordinary chess player. By night (and, statistically speaking, best at 16:00), they become The Caped Vigilante, known on the board as iAryanTRIPIE. Their mission? Defending the innocent pawns of the 64 squares, one e4 push at a time.
With over 30,000 analyzed games under the cape, this is not a part-time crusader. This is someone who has spent more hours in the battle against bad bishops than most people spend watching their favorite show.
Weapons of Choice
The Vigilante opens almost exclusively with the king's pawn. In fact, the move e4 has been played as the first move in the overwhelming majority of games, with the occasional e3 sneaking in like a sidekick on probation.
As White, their signature move is the Sicilian Defense: Alapin Variation, deployed thousands of times like a trusty grappling hook. As Black, the story gets stranger: they are one of the rare souls who voluntarily walks into the Australian Defense and calmly mirrors opponents in the Petrov's Defense. When they want reliability, they reach for the Caro-Kann Defense, which has quietly been their most trustworthy armor across all time controls.
Favorite tools in the utility belt:
- Alapin Variation - the primary weapon as White, with well over a thousand blitz and rapid deployments
- Petrov's Defense - because sometimes the best vigilante justice is simply refusing to lose
- Caro-Kann Defense - the sturdiest shield, with win rates that actually cross the 50% mark
- Queen checks - their most common checking piece by a landslide, delivering nearly 33,000 checks across their career
The Rogues Gallery
Every vigilante has nemeses, and The Caped Vigilante's city has some truly dangerous villains.
Chief among them: MrValkire, against whom the record stands at a grim 9 wins against 49 losses. Then there is Max Illingworth, a perfect horror movie antagonist who has won all 27 of their encounters. Some puzzles simply cannot be solved with a grappling hook.
But the cape flutters both ways. Against crtik, the Vigilante boasts a stunning 136 wins against just 4 losses, a record so lopsided it borders on vigilante justice. Other recurring sparring partners include Stephen G Lukey, Pipistruly, and Dwayne Johnson, each proving the streets are never quiet for long.
Powers and Weaknesses
The Caped Vigilante's powers come with tradeoffs, as all great heroes accept:
- Comeback rate: an astonishing 86.65%. Losing a piece barely registers; they win over 41% of games even after dropping material
- Endgame specialist: reaching the endgame in roughly two out of every three games, with wins averaging around 65 moves. Justice takes time
- Streaks of legend: both their longest winning streak AND longest losing streak are exactly 27 games. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
- The 15:00 curse: their win rate plummets dramatically in the 15:00 hour, making it the one hour the cape is forbidden from entering battle. By 16:00, the hero returns
Their rapid play is where the mask shines brightest, with a peak rapid rating of 2509 (2026-09-02), the crown jewel of their arsenal.
The Journey So Far
Since first appearing on the scene in late 2023, The Caped Vigilante has been on a steady climb, rising from sub-2000 territory toward the elite 2500 range. The ascent has not been without bruises, including a mysterious mid-2024 dip in rapid form, but every hero faces a dark chapter before the sequel.
Whether defending Petrov walls, punishing the unprepared with Alapin pressure, or simply outlasting opponents move by grinding move, The Caped Vigilante remains on patrol. The city sleeps. The board does not.
