A Decade of Loafing at the Board

If the name "loafes" makes you picture someone who never moves until the clock is down, think again. Since 2014, loaafes has turned online chess into a full-time hobby, playing tens of thousands of bullet and blitz games. The preferred time control is Blitz, but the record book also shows punishing bullet marathons, including one month with more than 2,000 bullet games. Along the way there was a 27-game winning streak, and enough rematches to create lifelong rivalries.

Openings of a Serial Grinder

With White, loaafes is no mystery: a heavy dose of 1.d4, often reaching the Queen's Gambit Declined. With Black, he lives inside the Sicilian Defense family, especially the Closed and Alapin variations, and he is glad to grab space with the Benko Gambit when the position calls for it.

Rivalries That Refuse to End

No biography is complete without rivals. loaafes's most persistent nemesis is JustResignPlz, with 264 meetings and a surprisingly consistent edge for justresignplz. Aman Hambleton has also caused heartbreak in 71 battles, and Joseph Bellissimo rounds out a trio of tough rematchers. Still, loaafes keeps coming back for more.

The Grinder's Notebook

  • Longest winning streak: 27 games, then reality arrived with a 16-game losing streak.
  • Comeback rate: 75.39 percent, and he still wins nearly half his games after losing a piece.
  • Blitz peak: 2318 (2023-04-23).
  • Best time of day: 4 a.m., proving that inspiration, or insomnia, wins chess games.

Legacy of the Long Game

loaafes is not a polished opening-theory robot. He is the online chess equivalent of the local court regular who shows up every day, plays the same sharp lines, accepts every challenge, and never stops improving. The username may suggest taking it easy, but the game counts suggest otherwise. As of late 2026, loaafes is still out there, queuing up in blitz and turning 1.d4 into an entire personality.
