What’s Already Working

  • Natural attacking instinct. Your win against ferdinan_do featured a picturesque rook-lift mate:
  • Spotting mating nets. Short tactical finishes (Qa4+, Qh5+, etc.) show you are always looking for checks.
  • Confidence. You’re not afraid to sacrifice or grab material when you see a line.

Where Most Losses Come From

  1. Skipping fundamentals in the opening. In the loss to mythyl03 you played 6…Nb4 and 7…Bg4 before you had castled; the queen sortie Qxg4 cost you a piece and the game on move 9.
  2. Loose king safety. Several games end with your king still in the centre or on dark-square walks (Kd7–Ke8). Castling by move 10 should be the default.
  3. Hanging pieces. Games against kolompar12 and wizardrules featured unprotected minor pieces and pawns that fell to simple forks or pins.
  4. Pawn over-extension. Early b-, f- and a-pawn pushes give you space but create holes (e.g. 3…f6 in the French, 6.f4 in Queen’s-Pawn). Stick to the centre first.

Targeted Fixes for the Next 14 Days

  1. Opening discipline drill
    • White: play the Italian Game (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4) for every game.
    • Black vs 1.e4: reply 1…e5 and mirror the same Italian structure.
    • Black vs 1.d4: answer 1…d5 2…Nf6 3…e6; keep it simple.
  2. Tactical warm-up
Solve 5 puzzles before every playing session (themes: pins, forks, mating nets). Aim for 70 % accuracy.
  3. Blunder check routine
Before pressing the clock ask: “What are all the checks, captures, threats for both sides?” Five-second scan = fewer free pieces.
  4. Endgame starter pack
Spend one evening on king-and-pawn vs king basics. Knowing the square of the pawn and the concept of opposition converts many won positions.
  5. Use the clock
Average critical blunder occurs with ≥ 7 min left. Force yourself to spend at least 20 seconds on tricky moves; the extra time pays off.

Encouragement

You have already strung together five-game winning streaks and beaten players rated 50-60 points higher. Clean up the early-game fundamentals and 600+ will come quickly. Keep the board hot and have fun!
