Shemka2006, FIDE Master: A Chess Biography
Who Is Shemka2006?
Shemka2006 is a FIDE Master, officially titled by FIDE, and unofficially one of the most patient players on the internet. Active since August 2016, they have treated online chess like a decade-long construction project, stacking thousands of blitz games on top of one another until the whole structure reached a career-best blitz rating of 2904 (2026-03-04). Behind the username is a very real, very stubborn chess player.
A Decade on the Grind
The rating history reads like a hiking trail with no downhill sections. Shemka2006 began 2016 in the mid-1300s, crossed 1800 by September 2017, cracked 2000 in January 2019, and was closing on 2450 by the end of 2020. The climb kept going: 2600 in 2022, 2800 by late 2024, and the summit arrived in March 2026. Bullet chess peaked at 2699 (2023-09-08) in 2023, and rapid topped out at 2106.
Ten years of steady improvement is rarer than any single brilliancy, and considerably less fun to watch live.
How They Win
Shemka2006 is an endgame creature. Roughly 80% of their wins are decided deep in the endgame, the first capture usually waits until move 7, and early resignation happens a mere 4% of the time. Drop a piece against them and do not celebrate: they still salvage games nearly half the time, and the overall comeback rate sits at 86%.
The streak data adds character. Longest winning streak: 16 games. Longest losing streak: 30 games, which was almost certainly followed by the 16-game streak, out of principle.
Openings, With Strong Opinions
The backbone is the Caro-Kann Defense, their best high-volume weapon at nearly 55% in blitz. The Döry Defense leads in sheer games played, the Amazon Attack: Siberian Attack sits close behind, and the Torre Attack keeps showing up despite results suggesting it should not. Shemka2006 was born an e4 player and quietly converted to 1.d4 somewhere along the way, with opening homework deepening from one move of prep in 2016 to real theory a few years later.
Bullet is where things get strange: the Amar Gambit, an opening with a famously dubious reputation, wins over 70% of the time, and the Nimzo-Larsen Attack scores 75%. In daily games, the Queen's Gambit Accepted line 3.e3 c5 and the Australian Defense both sit above 80%. The Rhamphorhynchus and Pterodactyl variations also appear in the history, because apparently the Mesozoic era outscores the Torre.
Exhibit A: the Amar Gambit. Questionable in theory, profitable in practice.
Rivals and Recurring Guests
No one has shared more board time with Shemka2006 than kirillspb11: 58 games, with Shemka2006 ahead 28-22-8. skriptonyashka has been a generous sparring partner at 20-10-3 across 33 games, and pitunkucheev has been thoroughly outplayed at 11-3. Not everything is rosy: Eric Lobron owns the head-to-head 12-5, and Nigel Short, whoever is behind that username, leads the series 10-6. Losing repeatedly to someone named nigelshort is a uniquely humbling experience.
Daily Chess Is the Preference, Allegedly
The profile lists Daily as the preferred time control, and the record backs it up: 72 wins, 51 losses, and exactly zero draws. Decisions only. The small catch is the blitz tab, which holds around 5,600 games, so either the preference is aspirational or blitz is not a choice, it is a lifestyle.
There is also a circadian component. At 2 AM the win rate is a mystifying 87.5%. At 3 AM it is 0%. Whatever happens in that single hour, it is not the coffee.
