Hi Tagami!

Great to see you grinding games and steadily improving. Your current best in Rapid stands at 1048 (2023-12-21) – proof that the work is paying off!

What you’re already doing well

  • Sharp tactical eye. In several recent wins you spotted forks like …Nxc2+ and discovered attacks with …Rd1+. Your ability to pounce on loose pieces is a real asset at this level.
  • Piece activity. You rarely keep pieces passive for long. The double-rook swing to h- and f-files against awwilletteeee is a textbook example of coordinating major pieces.
  • Comfort with open games. Most games start 1.e4 e5 and you handle the resulting Italian/Scotch structures confidently, often building big leads in development.
  • Solid time usage. You seldom get into deep time trouble, giving yourself space to think when the position turns tactical.

Biggest growth opportunities

  1. Blunder check every move.
Losses to Arun1395 and wmurphy122 both hinged on a single undefended piece. Before clicking any move, ask: “What did their last move attack? If I play my candidate move, what forcing reply hurts me?” That five-second habit will slash your error rate.
  2. Delay the queen expedition.
Early queen moves (Qg4, Qd3, Qh4) sometimes score quick wins but also get chased into awkward squares, costing tempi. Develop minor pieces and castle first; bring the queen out once the centre is stable.
  3. One-and-done development.
In the game vs. Nastya_Lu your knight and queen were redeployed three times before move 12 while other pieces slept. Follow the rule of thumb: touch each minor piece once, castle, connect rooks – then improvise.
  4. Endgame conversion.
Several opponents resigned in technically winning positions. Learn basic king-and-pawn and rook endgames so you can finish games even if the opponent refuses to quit.

Seven-day action plan

  • Daily puzzle routine: 10 tactics featuring fork, pin and removal of the defender.
  • Play at least three 15-10 or 10-5 games focused on the Italian/Two-Knights setup. Follow the development checklist above.
  • Revisit the critical moment of your most recent loss (after 11…Nxc2). Set up the position, give yourself five minutes and find the safest reply for White. This trains the blunder-check reflex.
  • Annotate one game per day: note one move you’re proud of and one improvement. Short but consistent reviews create lasting progress.

Final encouragement

You already possess the tactical spark to punish careless opponents. Add disciplined development and a strict blunder check to your routine and you’ll blast through the 1000-rating milestone in no time. Keep enjoying the journey, and happy hunting on the 64 squares!
