Coach Chesswick
Hi WJ1990 – Great fighting spirit!
Your recent games show that you are not afraid to attack and you often create practical problems for your opponents. Highlights include:
- Opportunistic pawn-grabs such as 11…Qxb2 (vs leopietro97) followed by accurate defence.
- Nice tactical shots – e.g.
32.f8=Q+in the same game. - Willingness to sacrifice material for initiative (…g-pawn storms, early …Nxf2).
Key Areas to Improve
- Opening discipline
• Multiple early queen moves (…Qh4-f6-f5) cost time and leave you under-developed.
• Repeated bishop/knight redeployments (Bc5-Bd6, Na6-Nb4-Nd3) delay castling.
Guideline: In the first 8–10 moves try to develop each piece once, fight for the centre, and castle. - King safety
In losses vs cimmyp and Mozy123 your king stayed in the centre while the opponent mobilised. Castle sooner and avoid pawn storms (…g5/…h5) before your king is safe. - Choosing sound lines in the French
You already like 1…e6 – great! Replace the risky …Qh4/…Bc5 ideas with classical set-ups. For example: Notice how Black develops pieces smoothly, keeps the queen back, and quickly attacks the centre with …c5. - End-game technique
Several wins came on time or by resignation in winning positions. Converting simple endings (e.g. rook + pawns vs lone king) will give you extra rating points and confidence.
Action Plan (Next 4 Weeks)
- Daily: 15–20 tactical puzzles themed on pins, forks & discovered attacks.
- Opening study: build a French Defence “mini-repertoire” – Classical (…Nf6), Rubinstein (…dxe4) & Exchange lines.
As White, try a mainstream opening (Italian, Queen’s Gambit, or London) to practise quick development. - After every game, note one move you would play differently and why.
- Weekly: play one
