What you already do well

High-impact areas to improve

1. King safety & development

Two of your last three losses (vs. kalpesh_shah and rahul1_2) came after you left your king in the centre and brought the queen out early. Castling quickly and completing minor-piece development will remove 70 % of the cheap tactics you currently face. Try following the simple opening checklist: develop → castle → connect rooks.

2. Calculating one move deeper

A recurring theme is stopping the calculation once you see your own idea, without asking “what does my opponent reply?”. In the loss to sauronswiss you pushed 19.g5 and missed the forcing line that ended with 35...Qxf1#. When you spot a tactic, spend 10 seconds making sure there is no zwischenzug or counter-check.

3. Avoiding pawn over-extensions

Moves like g4–g5 and a4–a5 are powerful when they open files after you are ready. Before pushing a wing pawn, count how many pieces you and your opponent have defending the squares it will leave behind.

4. Endgame conversion

Although most of your wins finish early, a few become messy (see 55-move win vs. edy-darno). Spend a little time on basic rook + pawn endings; knowing the Lucena and Philidor positions will give you confidence to trade into winning endgames.

Four-week improvement plan

1. Daily tactics (15 min) – Puzzle Rush and rated puzzles. Focus on patterns with forks, pins and back-rank mates. Link each puzzle to the underlying theme using tempo and initiative.
2. Opening focus (2 systems)
   • As White: keep 1.e4 and add the Italian (trades tactics for stable structures).
   • As Black: against 1.e4 study the Scandinavian (forces simplified positions and early castling).
   Aim to learn the first 8 moves only; rely on principles afterwards.
3. Game review (twice a week) – Pick one win and one loss, turn on the engine after you write down three moments you were unsure about.
4. Endgame basics (week-ends) – 30 minutes of rook-and-pawn drills; use the “Side rook cut-off” and “Building a bridge” exercises.
