Coach Chesswick
Hi Davide!
Great to see you grinding bullet and pushing your rating up to 2641 (2025-03-29) 🚀. Below is a compact report on the last session together with concrete action-items.
What already works
- Opening surprise value. 1.b3 and the Modern/Pterodactyl keep rivals out of book and generate imbalanced positions ideal for bullet.
- Tactical radar. The shot 22.Rxg7+!! against Nicolas De La Colina (diagram below) is the kind of resourcefulness that wins you many games on the spot.
- Playing for initiative. You consistently double rooks, sacrifice pawns and push the clock pressure back on the opponent — good bullet instincts.
Patterns that cost you points
- Over-extension before completing development.
In both losses to Halil Ozgun Kerem your f-, g- and h-pawns marched early while your king stayed in the centre. A simple rule for the next 50 games: “Three pieces developed & king castled before any pawn storm.” - Ignoring counterplay on the open files.
Critical moment: The rook swing decided the game. Whenever you advance the f- or g-pawn, ask “Which new files/diagonals did I just weaken?” - Time-to-conversion ratio.
The win vs Shubhi Gupta ran to move 72 with an extra rook! In bullet that’s risky. When clearly up:- Simplify (trade queens first, then minor pieces).
- Push the farthest passed pawn with pre-moves instead of side-checks.
Mini training plan (≈ 15 min/day)
| Day | Task | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Mon / Wed / Fri | 3-min “Safe-King” Puzzle Rush | Spot threats in <5 s |
| Tue / Thu | 10 bullet games, castle by move 6 | Break the “king in the centre” habit |
| Weekend | Annotate 5 recent losses in 1 sentence each | Identify single critical error fast |
Opening tune-ups
• Versus 1…d5 2…Bg4 replace 3.f4 with 3.Nf3; follow with 4.e3, 5.Be2, 6.O-O – you still keep the Nimzo-Larsen flavour without the early pin.
• Add the Hyper-Accelerated Dragon (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6) as Black – same pawn structure as your Modern but quicker piece activity.
Progress dashboards
Keep an eye on your stats:
For our next session
- Bring two winning positions where you struggled to finish cleanly.
- Prepare to explain your thought process around 31.Qh5 in the loss to CrtN88.
Stay sharp, trust your tactics, and with a steadier king you’ll crack 2700 bullet soon. See you at the board!
