Coach Chesswick
Hi Tereza!
Congratulations on consistently keeping your Blitz rating around 2201 (2021-04-17). You clearly have a strong tactical sense and a fighting spirit – most of your recent games were decided long before the clock became critical.
What you are already doing well
- Opening initiative with 1.f4 and 1.e4. You handle the initiative well, often seizing space with pawn storms (g- and h-pawns) and forcing your opponents to react.
- Tactical alertness. In your win against patriktesko you spotted …Bxb2 ideas and the pretty 23.Nd7+ in seconds. Here is the critical phase:
- Clock management. You frequently finish with 30-60 s left while the opponent flags. This is a valuable Blitz skill — keep it! Just be sure it never replaces careful calculation in critical positions.
High-impact areas to improve
-
Sicilian setups as Black.
In several losses (e.g. vs. Martin Cuhra) you followed a Dragon structure but castled too early and allowed h2-h3-g4-g5 to roll your kingside. • Study model games where Black meets 6.h3 with …h5 or delays …O-O and hits the centre with …d5.
• Know the key exchange sacrifice ideas on c3 and typical counter-shots like …d6-d5. -
Premature queen adventures.
The loss to Pavel Zpěvák started to go wrong after 8…Qb6/9…Nb4. Early queen moves cost tempi and let White develop with gain. As a rule of thumb, avoid queen sorties before minor pieces are active unless there is a concrete tactic. -
Endgame technique.
Many wins came by flagging an inferior opponent; aim to convert technically as well. Spend a few sessions on basic rook-endgame drills (Lucena, Philidor, zugzwang motifs).
Action plan for the next month
- 15-min opening review three times a week. Build a tidy Dragon/Accelerated Dragon file and one solid alternative (Caro-Kann or French) to vary.
- 30 tactical puzzles daily, but slow: calculate until you see the full line, then compare.
- Play one 10 + 5 game every two days and analyse without an engine first. Focus on “Why did I choose this move?” rather than “What does Stockfish say?”.
- Weekly endgame session: choose 5 rook endgames and play them vs the computer from both sides.

Your creative style is fun to watch and hard to face. Polishing the defensive side of your game will make you a more complete player and push you above the next rating barrier. Good luck!
